Why is there such a broad range in graphic design prices?
NOT available to public
As a business owner trying to market your company, you've probably been in a position where you've had to utilize the services of a graphic designer or a design firm. In doing so, you probably noticed that the price for a particular service can vary considerably from one design firm to another.
On the surface, it may seem like there is no reason to invest a larger amount for the same service, but in reality, you aren't simply investing in the service itself. You are investing in the knowledge and experience that is needed to create effective marketing materials. You can get your nephew to design your web site. It might even look pretty good, and the price tag will certainly be enticing, but 99 times out of a hundred, he or she will not have the skills and real-world experience to turn your visitors into paying clients. A skilled and experienced designer on the other hand generally knows how to produce results.
The fact of the matter is that you can find designers in just about any price range, just like you can find cars in just about any price range. If you are just starting your business, your budget may force you into choosing a lower priced designer, but you should enter that business relationship with the understanding that they will not deliver the same results as some of the higher priced designers. You wouldn't walk into an auto dealership and expect to drive off in a new Mercedes for the same price that you would pay for a Kia, and the graphic design industry is no different. You get what you pay for.
On a side note — some people are under the impression that their clients and prospects don't care how their marketing materials look. In the conscious mind, that is sometimes true, however, most of our decisions are made subconsciously. Very few, if any people look at a brochure and say "That's a really pretty brochure, I think I should buy from them" nor do they say "That's a really ugly brochure, I'm not going to buy from them" but the aesthetically pleasing, properly designed brochure will produce significantly more results every time. This is more important than ever before because of the amount of marketing that people are exposed to on a daily basis today. By having your marketing materials designed by a professional, you are increasing the likelihood of your prospects paying attention to them, as well as presenting the image that you are serious about your business.
