Budgeting for Life
Budgeting isn't about money as much as it is about life. Living your life to the maximum should be your goal when it comes to budgeting. Spending all the money you earn now on things you enjoy is probably as foolish as living like a pauper now to live it up later. Later is not guaranteed. How you balance your current needs with saving for your future is up to you.
Meeting your needs now and in the future is the underlying point of doing a budget. If it were just about the money, it would be nothing but a pointless mundane exercise involving a bunch of numbers and and some arithmetic. If pointless and mundane is how you feel about your budgeting efforts, a simple shift in your focus may be all that is needed to lighten it up a bit. Think of how good it will feel to know you've paid all your bills on time. Think of all the money that you're keeping in your pocket instead of going into the coffers of some credit card company when you've paid off your revolving debt.
Nice vacations, well maintained and attractive cars, well cared for children, new clothes when needed, healthy, plentiful meals and more are all possible with a well regulated budget - even on a modest income! A good budget is about living the good life. God put us here to be happy. We just need to do our part and apply a little discipline to reap the wonderful rewards a proper budget can bring.
