Honda Recalls 36,656 Civic Hybrid Vehicles for DC-to-DC Converters in the US

Japanese manufacturer Honda issued a statement today announcing it had identified a problem with some of its 2006 and 2007 model years from the US. The recall will affect 36,656 Civic Hybrid vehicles.

According to Honda, the recall is over a component of the Integrated Motor Assist hybrid control system that is fitted in the respective vehicles. The component is the DC-to-DC converter that could fail to work properly and can lead to engine stalling and malfunction of vehicle headlights.

According to Honda, there have been no related incidents reported.

The American Honda Motor Co., Inc., will recall 36,656 Civic Hybrid vehicles from model years 2006 through 2007 in the US to replace this DC-to-DC converter, a component of the Integrated Motor Assist hybrid control system.

According to a company statement:

* The DC-to-DC converter may experience an internal failure * The internal failure of the DC-to-DC converter could lead to engine stalling * The internal failure of the DC-to-DC converter could cause the malfunction of vehicle headlights

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer once they receive notification of the recall from Honda. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by the manufacturer starting from the 18th of March, and will be advised to take their cars to the dealers for proper inspection and repairs, if needed. All repairs will be conducted free of cost to the owners of the affected vehicles.

In addition to contacting customers by mail, after the 18th of March, owners of the vehicles affected will be able to determine if their vehicles require repairs by going on-line.
