Be amazed by bonnie Scotland
Scotland occupies the northern third of Great Britain and has a population of almost 5.25 million. It is a beautiful and varied country with breath taking natural scenery and awe inspiring urban architecture. <br/><br/> However you like to spend you leisure time and whatever activities you like to do as a tourist, Scotland will quench your thirst for adventure. This article looks at just some of the things you can do in this most handsome of nations. <br/><br/> The Highlands and Islands <br/><br/> Scotland's Highlands and Islands offer some of the most beautiful natural scenery anywhere in the world. From imperious mountains, to craggy windswept coastlines that hide golden beaches and tranquil heather clad glens, there is an abundance of striking landscapes to enjoy. <br/><br/> If you enjoy the outdoors then the highlands and islands offer limitless fun. You could choose to scale the UK's highest mountain with an ascent of Ben Nevis or if you visit during the winter months Aviemore, or one of the other ski resorts, may be open for you to get your fix of speeding down a mountain on pure white powder snow. If country pursuits are your thing, don't miss the chance to visit one of the large estates to indulge in a spot of river salmon fishing or shooting out in the hills. <br/><br/> If you prefer a little less exertion to experience breath taking views, consider taking the Fort William to Mallaig train for what has been voted the world's best train journey. Or you could take a boat cruise on Loch Shiel and see the unspoiled natural treasures of this part of the Highlands, be sure to take your binoculars though as it is not unknown to see Golden Eagles on this trip. <br/><br/> Edinburgh <br/><br/> Referred to by some as The Athens of the North, Edinburgh is Scotland's stunning capital. The sandstone architecture that adorns the cities hills is both varied and rarely comes without a story as to its form and existence. Part of the attraction of visiting the city is that many of the Edinburgh apartments that tourists can rent are located in these historic buildings <br/><br/> There is a wealth of tourist attractions to enjoy in the city. You can visit the Castle which is majestically perched on a rock high above the rest of the capital and nearby is the Whisky Heritage Centre where you can learn about and enjoy a sample of Scotland's national drink. Luckily, many of the museums and galleries in Scotland are free to visit, meaning you can pop in and enjoy viewing some fine art for as long or short a time as you like. <br/><br/> <br/><br/>
