There's a Landline For Everyone With BT's Range of Calling Plans

by Paulrowley

It's sometimes easy to forget that mobiles can't solve all our communication problems. While they're the only real option for talking while you're not at home, they can sometimes fail when we do use them at home because of issues with signal, unexpectedly running out of credit and general unreliability. It is, therefore, important for all households to acquire and maintain a landline to ensure that they are always contactable. BT, which has been a leading telecommunications provider since 1846, currently provides several landline deals for customers who use the landline both frequently and rarely.

The three primary BT calling plans are designed for a range of landline customers depending on the amount they intend to use a home phone service. The Unlimited Anytime package is the best option for heavy users, as evening, weekend and daytime calls are included within the monthly cost of the contract; the Unlimited Evening and Weekend package is suitable for those who would only use the landline at those times, and light users should opt for the Unlimited Weekend deal.

All three deals involve taking on a twelve-month BT line rental contract. When you order one of the deals, you will be given a choice of two payment schemes. You may either pay every month or pay for all twelve months in advance, which saves you money and means that taking on the same contract with a rival like Virgin Media is significantly more expensive. You can pay by Direct Debit and opt for paper-free billing, which saves both time and trees. However, you will need to make at least two phone calls a month through the landline or incur an extra charge.

In addition to the three free call features that are included with all BT calling plans, there are also five extra features that can be purchased for an extra fee. Call waiting enables you to tell when a second person is trying to get through while you are already on the line and lets you put the first caller on hold while you speak to them; call barring lets you bar certain types of calls that can be made from the phone, such as outgoing international calls; call diversion diverts calls to your mobile or a separate landline handset; caller display shows you the number of the person calling so you can screen it if you wish, and the ring back feature will let you know when an engaged number you are trying to get through to becomes available.

BT knows what its customers want from a telecommunications service provider – that's how it's survived through changing communication trends for the past 166 years. The low BT line rental prices and wide range of incorporated features combine to present an attractive overall package to customers and convince even the lightest of users that access to a personal landline is as much of a necessity now as it was twenty years ago.
