Things You Should Not Do If Your Website Is New

In web building, the patient and those who know what to do are the ones who would most likely to succeed, get a lot of traffic, and gain people's trust.

When you are a new-comer and just launched a website, it is wise to take note of the following things you should avoid for you to be spared from stress, frustration, and additional cost.

Do not:

1. Expect visitors. In the first several months after launching your website, you will just have about five visitors or none at all. This is because pulling a website from the ground is extremely tough and slow. And unless you spend a lot of time advertising it, you might not get a good traffic throughout the first year.

2. Add Facebook and Twitter buttons. Potential clients might shun away if they discover that you only have a few followers. They might lose trust in you. Build on your social media presence first before leading your visitors to drop by your social media outlet and ask them to follow or add you in their list.

3. Use Flash. As much as possible avoid a flash-based site. This is because Adobe will not support Flash on set-top boxes and mobile devices. Consider the massive amount of people using mobile phones to connect to the Internet. You will lose a lot of potential clients simply because they are unable to open your website.

4. Add testimonials. There are only two effects of testimonials. It's either they will make your visitors purchase your product or avail of your services or make them feel annoyed or fooled which may push them away and never come back to your website. The second one is because testimonials often sound insincere and fake. However, if you really want to integrate testimonials in your website, see to it that they are true, specific, convincing, and strong.

5. Add a blog. Adding a blog page can be very demanding and time-consuming since you need to update it every day or three times a week at least. Unless you are committed to keeping a blog, then skip it because an outdated blog will make your business or company look small, incompetent, or even out of business.

6. Attempt to please everyone.

If you try to build your website in a way that it can suit all kinds of visitors, it will be ineffective and out of focus. Determine who your target customers are and who would most likely visit your site and concentrate on giving them the best experience.
