Most people say that if you work on a business that you love, the money will come. Though it is true that you must do a Home Business that you enjoy, you will also need to determine whether the market is actually paying for the kind of products and services that you offer.

To help you decide which Home Business opportunity to choose from, here is a list of common categories.

Offer your own unique product and services - You have a great product or service that is 100% owned by you. You have a choice of selling your product directly to the customer or through a distributor/reseller. If you are in this category, its a great idea to have your unique product and service patented. Distributorship/Reseller - In this arrangement, you have entered into an agreement with a manufacturer to sell their product or services. Depending upon the agreement, you may be limited to sell only the manufacturer's products. As a distributor, you will be selling the product to both resellers and direct customer. As a reseller, you will usually sell only to the customer directly. The status of distributor/reseller is normally granted based on volume of product moved by the distributor/reseller. Affiliate - Affiliate marketing is unique to the online (Internet) world. An affiliate is somewhat similar to a reseller with a distinct difference. An affiliate's role is to direct a customer from their site to the product sales system via a link. The affiliate will receive commission based on the purchases made by the customer. Affiliate marketing also has some characteristics of network marketing. When an affiliate signs up through another affiliate, both will get commission for any sales made. Unlike a reseller but similar to network marketing, the affiliate's only role is to introduce the product. The remaining sales process is completed by the merchant. Selling on Consignment - You will be selling your product on the racks of department stores. With this arrangement, the department store will get a cut for each sale made. Trademark or Product Licenses - You have the right to use the seller's trade name as well as specific methods, equipment, technology or products. Network Marketing - This term is used for direct sales and multilevel marketing. In this system, you become what is commonly termed as an "independent business owner". You would sell products through your own network of friends, neighbors, co-workers and acquaintances and you get commission from the sale. You will also benefit from the commissions gained by people recruited by you into the system. Franchise - Under this arrangement, the business owner or franchisee will be provided with a ready made business together with the support systems available. Besides the big name franchise like MacDonald's, there are other low cost franchise that you may consider. Cooperatives - A business comes into agreement with larger network of similar businesses and selling the products and services under a common name. This is normally used to quickly boost the credibility of your business by leveraging on an established brand. Of course, the above list is not exhaustive.

So, how do you decide which opportunity to go for?

Well, you will need to do your own research before deciding which opportunity to choose. Here are some areas you need to check when deciding.

Make a market evaluation of the product and services offered by the opportunity. Does the company offer a comprehensive training program? Check with others who have made use of the opportunity and learn from their experiences. Do you need to build your company from scratch? If this is too daunting a task, choose a company or opportunity with a ready made business for you. What is your startup budget? Check the background of the company Does the company have good financial strength? Evaluate the policies and plans of the company. Check the Better Business Bureau on whether there are complaints lodged against the company. Visit the Head Office of the company or talk to the people in the company. Once you have made your choice, put your Home Business plans into action immediately.
