India is the land of festivals. Indians who are living abroad get some very special opportunities to revive relations by sending gifts to India. It has not been many days since the festival of Raksha Bandhan has passed and Diwali is ready to shine the surroundings and illuminate not only the outer world with innumerable lamps but also the hearts with hope and happiness. Diwali is known as the festival of lights. This is so not because so many lamps are lit around the houses and thus lighten the whole town but this is also to commemorate the victory of good over evil, victory of truth over false, victor of light over dark. Diwali is the day when hopes flourished into happenings. This is the day when lord Ram had won over the demon Ravana and got his wife Sita rescued from the captivity of the devil with the help of younger brother Laxman, devotee Hanuman and others.

Diwali, or also known as Dipawali, is celebrated all over India by people of all cost and creed. The festival is so deeply set in our roots that even the proximity of this festival enlightens the spirit with a lot of hope and excitement. Every Indian, no matter where he lives in the world, celebrates Diwali with a lot of joy and happiness. They do want to meet their friends and families on this occasion and share the happy moments together. The festival makes the warmth of relations more intense on the occasion. As a ritual elder members of the family buy gifts for younger ones. Those who are living abroad send Diwali gifts to India. Women cook delicious dishes and prepare a lot of dishes peculiar to Diwali such as Gujiya. The houses are made clean of any waste, dirt or dust, whitewashed and decorated to welcome the new spirit of enjoyment and excitement.

The Goddess of wealth Laxmi is worshipped along with lord Ganesha on this day. Thus the festival harbingers greater prosperity and happiness to people and their family. This is what everyone wishes for others on the occasion. Public holidays are declared by the government and private organizations. The festival continues till 5 days. Everyone, young or old, wears new clothes, fire crackers, share sweets and gifts and the time is spent together with a lot of fund and frolic. The festival has great social significance as it encourages personal meetings with remote family members, relations and friends. Thus, this is also seen as an opportunity to forget personal malice and reunite for a better tomorrow. Almost every Indian who is living abroad sends Diwali gifts to India for friends, family, and parents.
