Is There a Cure for Arthritis?

Arthritis

by Ruben Licera Jr.

While more and more people are suffering from the disease “arthritis,” or the breakdown of body joints often due to old age, overweight, and previous injuries - medicine and research are continuing to find a cure to this body malfunction. But the question now is, is there really a cure for arthritis? According to Dr. Charles Helmick, a researcher from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is still no cure for arthritis as of the moment. What can be treated is the pain and swelling through good medication and prevention of some of the other severe effects. (http://www2c.cdc.gov/podcasts/media/pdf/mmwr5_051310_transcript.pdf). “Arthritis cure” mainly suggests that the disease is totally gone, the patient no longer experience any persistent symptoms of it, or there is no need for further treatment. However, what doctors normally do is give remedy to the clinical symptoms of arthritis. These symptoms are usually in the form of chronic pain, swelling, redness, and fatigue of the joints in the common areas such as hands, feet, elbows, knees, neck and back. Sometimes, absence of these signs is confused to a cure of arthritis. Although there is no official cure for arthritis yet, patients remain positive of being spared from the lingering pain and disability through natural joint remedies available. Here are some of the natural remedies that can overcome the symptoms of arthritis: 1. Healthy food • Fresh and green vegetables provides vitamin C, beta carotene and anti-oxidants to reduce cell damage • Fresh fruits such as grapefruit gives vitamin C and anti-inflammatory effects • Fish and fish oil supplies omega-3 for bone-building and anti-inflammation • Whole-wheat products and milk provides zinc for proper immune system function 2. Lose weight • Excess weight adds pressure to joints that causes inflammation. Getting back to the proper weight can reduce the signs of arthritis. 3. Exercise • Inactivity of the body while suffering arthritis can cause more soreness, while proper movement for the joints increases its flexibility and strength. Daily exercise such as walking can help relieve the ache in the bones. A physical therapist is a professional who can teach the right exercises for people with arthritis.
