Shop owners and other business both small and big witness the highest turnover of revenues during this time of the year; thanks to the extraordinary footfall recorded at all the shopping centers. Timely discounts and promotions add to the allure of shopping. Shopaholics emerge the winners all along at the cost of a hole in their pockets. For Hindus, Diwali is celebrated in commemoration of the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, from his fourteen-year-long exile once he had vanquished the demon-king Ravana. Jains celebrate Diwali so as to mark Mahavira’s attainment of the milestone of nirvana while the Sikhs celebrate Diwali in memory of their sixth guru, Guru Harigobind’s release from prison. The Guru had also rescued 52 other Hindu kings captured by the Mughal Emperor at the time.
