Find Your Proper Niche

by Casey Trillbar

While embarking on the idea to start up a web based business you must be sure and find the right niche in order to succeed.

The World Wide Web is a huge market place and in order to succeed, you want to be able to provide people with something that is not easily obtained elsewhere.

In order to be competitive, you need to find an area or product that there is not much in the way of competition.

Don't try and compete with the big retailers I nformational products are a dime a dozen, everybody has one Stay away from MLM or get rich quick schemes Sell a product that people can use

Proper Budget For Your Product

Once you have found a unique product and a reliable source for producing the product, you will need to devise a viable marketing plan and a budget for how you are going to go about advertising and selling your product.

A good long-range plan and a proper budget right from the very beginning will make a big difference on your rate of success.

Divide your budget into these areas:

1). Start up costs

2). Advertising and marketing

3). Fixed monthly cost

4). Inventory

Start up cost

This will be the foundation of your new enterprise. Be precise and do not overspend. Assuming you will be starting your new web business out of your home, try starting off with used equipment (computers, printers, furniture etc..) this can help offset you initial investment and the savings can go towards your advertising and market expenses.

Be sure and have a designated space in your home just for your new business, away from family and kids. Anything you spend is tax deductible so keep all receipts and good records, separate form the rest your home monthly expense.

Once your office space is all set up start working on obtaining a web hosting service provider and designing your web site. If you need help with a web site, consider hiring a professional web design and consulting service to get you started and include this expense in your start up cost.

Advertising And Marketing

This is going to be your biggest expense, starting up and on a monthly basis.

Have a professional marketing firm show you the ropes and get you set up in the beginning. Plan on using them for about three months to help you get your web site off the ground then take over the marketing aspects of running your business.

Fixed Monthly Cost

After your initial start up cost there will be certain fixed cost that you will occur each month whether you are making any money or not. A percentage of your office space in your home can be used as a tax deduction so include that percentage as a monthly expense, that also includes electricity, phone, internet access and general office supplies.

Inventory

You will need to budget a certain amount each month to keep enough inventory on hand to ship to your customers or enough in your budget to pay your suppliers to drop ship your product to your customers. This may need to be done in advance until you establish credit with your suppliers.

While this is not a complete list, this should give you a good idea of what it will take to successfully get your web site up and running.
