Following The Loss Of A Loved One

by Alan Redman

People find it hard to make a decision regarding how to rest a loved one. They are torn between having a burial or a cremation. The two are very different from each other. Burial is a ritual of placing a corpse in a grave while cremation involves burning the body into ashes and later placed in a place according to their wish.

There are many factors that family members should put into consideration when choosing the method to send off their loved one. Cost is one such major consideration. The cost of a funeral varies, depending on the option a family decides to take. Usually cremation has a lower cost than burials. This is because in cremation one only pays for the process of cremating the body.

This is a different case for burial where they have to pay for expenses like the casket and also transportation costs from the mortuary to the burial ceremony. All these are costs that can be evaded in the other option where the family does not have to pay for burial space and other expenses. They also incur an extra cost of personal transport to the ceremony of the deceased.

So much time is consumed in a burial ceremony. This is because of the preparations that it entails like time spent to raise funds. Preparing sites for deceased also consumes a lot of time. They may take a duration of about a week or so. The funeral ceremony also takes a lot of time as they take almost a whole day. This is not the case in the other process which only consumes around three hours.

Another factor that family members should consider is the instructions or last wishes of the deceased. Some people give details regarding how they will be sent off after they pass away. Such instructions should be honored by their loved ones who have been left behind. Such details affect the method to be used once they die.

Environmental factor is another consideration to look at. Cremation is believed to interfere with the environment through the greenhouse effect. Anybody who conserves the environment do not go for this method. On the other hand cemeteries have become very common. This has raised concern that burials be avoided as there is no enough space to bury more people.

The culture of people should also be considered. Culture determines the method to be used to send off the deceased. Some advocate for burials while others prefer cremating the deceased. Therefore culture acts as a guideline to the decision when resting the dead.

The decision on burials and cremations for loved ones is essential. It also lies on whether they want a remembrance of the dead or not. They should put the above factors into consideration when making the decision.
