The time to eat is a favorite time for many people. This is especially true when the cook is experienced and knows his way around a kitchen. Regardless of your cooking ability, you can still learn new techniques and recipes for making delicious meals.

When not in use, put your spices in an area that receives the lowest amount of light and heat. Spices will last longer when they are not exposed to warm temperatures and moist air. Keeping your spices in a cooler space with little light will enhance their flavor and shelf life. If you use fresh spices, your food will taste better.

If you are cooking for an important guest, resist the urge to experiment with a new recipe. Whether preparing food for a boss, in-laws or a brand new love interest, you want your cooking to wow them. Cooking them one of your specialties is a safe bet.

Make sure you use silicone or rubber utensils if you cook with nonstick pans. If you use a utensil from wood or metal, it will ruin your nonstick pans over time because it can destroy the coating. This can be dangerous, as well as unappetizing.

When you cook vegetables quickly over high heat, their quality is best. Vegetables that are cooked slowly lose a lot of their taste and nutrition. A plus is that faster cooking methods usually yield vegetables which are, generally, simply better for you health. You should only cook them just as long as it takes for them to be done.

Enhance the flavors in a simple dish by using fresh ingredients, herbs and seasonings. Dried herbs aren't quite as conspicuous in more complex or layered dishes. Your best bet, however, is to go with fresh herbs that will give you the best, strongest possible taste. Cultivating an herb garden on your patio or deck, or even in your kitchen, will make it easy to snip fresh herbs whenever you need them.

After your Thanksgiving meal, don't throw away turkey leftovers. Instead, cut them into smaller pieces, and put in some airtight containers that will go in the freezer. Keeping the turkey in the freezer allows it to stay fresh for a couple of weeks, and then it can be used for sandwiches or in a salad.

Wooden skewers should be soaked in water for a minimimum of thirty minutes before they are used. This keeps them from burning up while the food is cooking on them. Keep food from falling off of your skewers by using two parallel skewers instead of a single one.

Do all the prep work ahead of time. Save time by doing the prep work before you begin cooking the meal. Cooking can get stressful when you're working to deadline. Try to complete your preparations, so you can avoid scrambling later on.

To have especially flavor rich foods, produce your own stock. Making it in huge quantities can allow you to store the leftover in some resealable bags in the freezer. By making the stock in bulk, there will always be some available for your soups and other dishes. Making homemade stock ensures that you know what is in it and that it isn't made with preservatives.

Use the tips you just read about to help you improve your cooking skills. Take a shot at each suggestion at least once. Practicing these tips will perfect your cooking, and help you create delicious dishes. By taking these tips seriously, you will ultimately be a higher quality chef.
