The Trendiest Cosmetic Surgery Operations Today
Plastic surgery has been around for thousands of years, but it is a constantly evolving and changing field. It is interesting to look at because so much of its focus gets decided by two factors: popularity, or trends, and technology available. If the technology is available to do something, and celebrities start to have it done - then everyone is going to want it.
Plastic surgery operations in general have been becoming more and more popular in modern times, both for men and for women. Most of the growth has been for women, though it has been increasing across the board exponentially for some time now. Only more recently are we seeing a lot more men considering and undergoing cosmetic surgery - including both non-surgical and surgical. For men, the most common surgical or nonsurgical procedures include botox, lipo, facelifts, and eyelid surgery - among others.
Before they even get home from the hospital, the gossip news and web pages are all talking about the latest "work" some star has had performed. The attitude our celebrities have towards plastic surgery is generally pretty casual, which is starting to be reflected by society as a whole. Our society has a tendency to follow popular celebrities, and cosmetic surgery is certainly not above this trend.
The most popular procedures for females in 2007 were breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery, abdominoplasty, and breast reduction. Liposuction, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, male breast reduction, and hair transplantation were the most common operations among the male population. (from wikigender.org).
The 2011 data (most recent) from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery is essentially the same. The most popular procedures for women in 2011 were breast augmentation, liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast lifts, and eyelid surgery. Among men it was liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, breast reduction, and facelift. Botulinum toxin type A (botox), hyaluronic acid, laser hair removal, IPL laser treatment, and microdermabrasion were the most popular operations seen in the 35-50 age group.
Botox and other non-surgical procedures have been showing the most growth recently. In 2011 the top five non-surgical jobs included botox, hyaluronic acid, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, and IPL laser treatment. Only the order is a little different, but otherwise this is the same as the age 30-50 group.
Surgical and non-surgical operations have grown almost 200% in the past 15 years and now number more than 9 million per year! A great majority - 91% - of these procedures were performed on women while only a meager 14% of men said they would even consider having plastic surgery. But the general approval level of society for plastic surgery has never been higher, and as the technology gets better and procedures become more popular - with the celebrities of Hollywood leading the way for us - these patterns are only going to become more popular.
