Toyota Etios Liva price sees new hike

Toyota Etios Liva, the cheapest Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) portfolio car in the Indian market, is one of the highest volume driving cars for Toyota in India. The Etios Liva hatchback is a strategically developed vehicle especially for the emerging markets like India, where there is a high growth potential in the small hatchback segment. However, due to its moderate looks the car hasn’t been able to match the success achieved by its other segment leading siblings like Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) Toyota Innova and Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Toyota Fortuner. The Liva hatchback is a global portfolio product of the company to which it plans to launch in a number of other markets in the coming future including South Africa where the car will be launched in May 2012.

The Liva hatchback is currently available in both petrol and diesel versions in the Indian market, shelved in the price segment of Rs. 3,99,000 to Rs. 5,99,000 (ex-showroom Delhi price), where it is fighting for space with number of rivals including Honda Brio, Maruti Swift and Ritz, Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo, Nissan Micra and Fiat Punto. However, following the excise duty hike in the Union Budget 2012-13, the Etios Liva model has become expensive by Rs 9,500 in petrol version and Rs 11,500 in diesel version.

The Etios Liva Petrol is powered by a 1.2L petrol engine that is capable of delivering a peak power of 80 PS at 5600 rpm along with a peak torque of 104 Nm at the rate of 3100 rpm. On the diesel version of the car is loaded with a 1.4L 4-cylinder 8V diesel engine which is capable of outpouring a peak power of 68 PS at 3800 rpm at a peak torque of 170 Nm at 1800 rpm to 2400 rpm. Both petrol and diesel versions of the car come incorporated with a five speed manual transmission.

However, in terms of performance, the Etios Liva has ability to leave behind any of its segment competitors. The car delivers a significantly higher fuel economy in both petrol and diesel versions at up to 18.3 km per liter and 23.5 km per liter, respectively. With a top speed of 175 km per hour, the Etios Liva Petrol takes just 14.8 seconds to break the speed barrier of 100 km per hour. On the other hand, the Liva diesel takes just 12.47 seconds to break this speed barrier, with a top speed of 180 km per hour.

The car is equipped with a range of advanced safety & security, comfort & convenience and styling features including SRS airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), steering wrapped in leather and mounted with controls for volume and audio system and 2DIN 1CD MP3/FM audio player with USB and Aux-in.
