Game Time Means Steak Time

Yes, it is September and supposedly it is fall - time for all the collegiate and pro football games. It hardly seems like time for outdoor sports when it is so hot, so those who cannot attend will be inside grouped around the largest TV available rooting for their teams. There will be plenty of chips and dip and maybe someone has thought about picante sauce. After four hours of running with every player, catching each pass and throwing insults at the bad calls, everyone is ready for a hardy meal. And there's nothing more satisfying than a nice, big juicy prime steak. It's a good thing your favorite prime steakhouse allows casual dining.
You have gone there plenty of times for upscale dining and dressed up, but you know your crowd will fit in with casual slacks and Polo's. You get to order your beer of choice while others may opt for a glass of the house wine which is really good. A few couples may share an entire bottle from their wine cellar. Another great advantage is that they are used to handling a group as large as yours. Everyone can select what they want and the service is always impeccable.
Will you order your 'usual'? This is a celebration because your team won, but each time you have the large filet it is a celebration in itself. This is not the average store-bought filet mignon. This is USDA prime steak that can only be found in a prime steakhouse. It is fine dining at its best. The meat is tender, succulent and flavorful. It is always cooked to perfection and you never cover the taste with a 'steak sauce.' You consider that a sissy, rookie move. You order an appetizer of shrimp cocktail, a Caesar salad and a huge baked potato to complete your meal.
Your date is not as large a carnivore as you. She prefers something from the sea rather than a prime steak. It seems she always orders the Alaskan king crab legs with drawn butter. She has been a cheerleader for the past four hours and deserves a fine dining respite. She goes for the delicious French onion soup, has a chopped salad and chooses fresh asparagus and au gratin potatoes to round out her meal.
You are glad this prime steakhouse has a special dish for the newlyweds. They do everything together so it is no surprise that they ordered the Chateaubriand for two. They do not have to squabble because it is served with both béarnaise as well as hollandaise sauce on the side. They shared scallops as an appetizer and both ordered fresh green beans and sautéed mushrooms to accompany their prime steak.
Did the group save room for desert? You used so many calories running for a touchdown, you deserve it. You and your date share a bread pudding with Maker's Mark Sauce and the newlyweds share a piece of scrumptious pecan pie. Then it is a round of Irish coffee for the finishing touch.
This has been such a wonderful dinner; you are hoping your team wins next week as well so you can treat the group to a great prime steakhouse. Next time, the newlyweds pay.
