Upsell pages from an order page
Do you remember ever getting your money out to purchase something only to find that in the middle of your purchase you are given an offer for something that you never expected but complements what you are about to purchase perfectly?
It is such an irresistible offer, that you decide to buy that too? McDonald’s is classic for doing this. You order a Big Mac meal and they tell you you’ll save if you super size it. How about the movie theatre? You’re about to buy one popcorn and a drink for yourself and your date only to hear the cashier behind the counter tell you of the special deal if you buy two popcorns. These are examples of upselling. Although slightly different than online marketing, you are usually offered a product or upsell that complements what you are about to purchase. That’s what upselling is.
Actually, I’ve been very bad at creating upsell pages in the past mainly due to laziness, but I am getting very good at it now.
One thing you want to do on your upsell pages is make sure that the upsell product is relevant to whatever it is that you’re initially offering. They don't have to be the same exact thing, but they should follow along the same lines. For example, if you ever selected anything on Amazon, it’ll say “People that purchased this also purchased this.” Just simply making a suggestion and offering more products makes a big difference to your bottom line. This is actually something that I’m going to do on my next upsell for my new product launch. I’m going to say, “People that bought this also bought this.”
Another advanced strategy that's going to help all of your marketing online as well as the upsell, is on your sales letters. It is a good idea to embed your order form right on your sales letter. This will really increase your conversions because it'll get people to continue to the next page.
I’ve found that video can also work well in certain situations. Now, I actually am not very big on video when it comes to email marketing or my squeeze pages because my tests have shown that I’m actually doing better without a video. However, what you can do is…
On the upsell pages you should create one time offers. I found it works really well to add a video there to really explain and sell what you’re going to offer them. When they land on the next page, you’re going to say, “Click yes if you want to lock in your order or select no to decline”. Once they click the button and go down to the bottom, there’s going to be another button. On that button that you create, you want it to say something like, “Lock in your order now.” And as soon as they click yes and lock in their order, their credit cards will be billed immediately. What’s going to happen when you do that is it’s going to increase your upsells.
If you can do any of these strategies you’re going to be more successful in your online marketing efforts.
