Effective Yet Controversial Logo Designs
The use of logo to create an identity among businesses has become an even more vital tool in marketing and advertising strategies. Controversial and powerful logos help to market services, manufactured goods and among others that promise financial profits. However, a logo may as well serve as a determinant to the rise or fall of a certain business, especially if it causes a public outcry and receive criticisms.
The New York Opera logo design, simple circle or ring designed by 2x4, Inc., raised so much controversy when it was used for the first time. Some admired its simplicity, visual strength, innovativeness and boldness while others see it as an inferior quality composed only of a circle on a plain background and doubt the success of the design. Although the company that designed the logo is well-known and respectable, one cannot question their decision in doing such design which has been confirmed by the Opera itself.
The Vodafone logo, which had open and close quotation marks and two number 6 in between, raised controversies as the number 6 is associated with the devil and the red color placed more emphasis even more as red, just like the number 6, represents the color and the work of the devil.
Animation magnate Walt Disney Production, in the past earned a huge part of the controversy because of its logo that with a closer look, revealed three numbers 6, which received a considerable amount of criticisms from the Christian world. It was also believed that wicked messages were hidden among its cartoon characters, movies and CDs. If it was purely coincidental or intentional, it gave the company a bad image in the Christian world.
The logo designs, despite the round of controversies that it received were a product of talent, skills and ingenuity. Some believed that such misconceptions were just product of illusions brought about by so much analyzing such designs while others just shrugged it off as they believe that such logos do not have the power to influence their mind.
The world of logo designing at times is controversial as it strengthens the competition that is present among designers. On the other hand, competition is a tool that drives designers to strive for perfection. In its absence, the advertising world would never been as colorful and as exciting as it is. Also, the television networks and the internet will be empty and void if not due to the evolution of web and logo designing.
