How to Forgive the Unforgiveable In 10 Heaven-Assisted Steps

by Steve Evans

When you get a very hard task to accomplish, it really helps to break it up into simpler parts.

How do you forgive deep injustice? More often than not we forgive only by voicing it. On the other hand, if the pain of inexcusable offense is plastered to you like glue, take your heart "on pilgrimage" using these simple, yet powerful steps.

Watch your life in Christ take flight as the Lord rehearses these steps with you!

1) Pray For God's Assistance

Considering that mercy is our God's solution, begin by asking for His help. The "want to want to prayer" is a lifesaver: "Jesus, help me want to want what You want and reject what You reject."

This frank prayer is powerful because it invites God to work inside our somewhat reluctant heart.

2) Don't Minimize The Injury.

First, don't try to diminish the injustice done to you or the harm you experienced. Sin causes hurt! That is why it can not be condoned--only forgiven.

Now, acknowledge the ways that God has sent friends and done things to minister to you. Your injury matters to Him! Remembering that God cares helps us entrust our pain to Him.

3) Ask God To Forgive Them.

God reconciled Himself to the whole world at the cross of Christ, not "imputing" their tresspasses against them. In this way He has already extended mercy.

Even so, He still requires our prayers in order to work with anyone who is trapped in sin. If we refuse to ask God to forgive them, how will we do it it when it is our turn?

4) Ask The Lord To Punish The Enemy's Kingdom.

Doesn't justice require that someone should suffer? By all means !

Jesus was "made to pay" fully for human sin, but the spiritual kingdom of darkness must get its well deserved punishment too! Many Christians get mad at fellow humans; few are the ones who understand the way to stay mad at the eternally sinful ones.

Ask God to make sure that the dark kingdom gets a major set back from the way the Lord Jesus will be advancing His kingdom's reign since you are surrendering to His will.

5) Ask God To Forgive You.

By now you may be considering that the sin of anger in your heart is a very dark thing --and has no excuse. If the pain and bitter judgments have dug in deep, we definitely will want all the help we can be given in order to become separated from them.

Honest confession of our own sin , allows the Lord to give out fresh mercy on our path. Now we can be confident He is totally working with us!

6) Declare Your Will To Completely Forgive The Offender.

This is a declaration of your will, not an emotion. Don't ever wait for the emotions to show up! As a matter of fact the worse your emotions are, the more substantial your interior freedom will become whenever you fully let go of the offense.

Hold the offender in your mind's eye and declare forgiveness, "I forgive you and set you free from all of my judgments." True forgiveness is giving the individual, the hurt and the offense to the Lord and trusting God with it .

Go right on letting go of everything that occurred to God. He will be at work in your heart all the while.

7) Choose To Forgive Yourself.

This should really be a cinch--after all, we know just how much we have suffered. But the fact is that we were the ones who were binding the hurt to ourselves! We could have been released much sooner!

8) Decide To Believe In God's Splendid Promise.

Use this as a powerful motivation to thoroughly release any offender: God pledges that He will work all things for the redemption of those who submit to Him.

Because we are living by His requirement to forgive, we are at last positioned to receive this promise in greater measure. Let your hope widen to the fantastic truth that a far better good will now resurrect out of the very same thing that your enemy formerly meant for evil.

9) Intercede For Those Who Hurt You.

Job's blessings were restored after he prayed for the companions who had heaped blame upon him.

Pray powerfully for God to give grace to the one you have forgiven. This cleans the heart like a pressure wash!

10) Thank God By Faith.

Now that you can sense the inward freedom, thank God for being so patient with you.

Acknowledge to Him that He certainly can mend your greatest hurts and bring refreshing to your life in Christ, once He gets you to cooperate with Him. Thank Him for persevering with you!

Nobody claimed forgiving great wrongs is easy, but it is necessary.

How do you forgive? These ten steps are guaranteed to work, but only if you work out with them as you walk your hurting emotions through them!

Be sure you persevere with it until the sweet feeling of inner peace returns!
