These New Tips Can Improve Your Basketball Game

by Keith Hill

This is why basketball is enjoyed by so many people; the game is fast and exciting. To be good at it, you have to understand the game. Here you're going to get some advice that can help you do better at basketball.

Practice your layups a lot. 80% of all shots in a game are usually layups. It's critical to practice running towards the basket at full speed and following up with a good jump and smooth shot. This will assist you in perfecting your ability to jump and then shoot.

Learn how to block out movement, noise and other distractions when taking a free throw. Training your body is important, but you also have to be mentally ready for the shot. You are more likely to make more successful free throws if you relax and focus on the basket.

Don't just practice playing against a zone defense. Always try to anticipate when your opponent is going to switch up their game to catch you off guard. Practicing these techniques can give you a competitive edge over your competition.

Never try to push through pain after an injury. Basketball is physically demanding, and it is easy to get hurt. If you continue playing, you could make the injury even worse. If the injury feels too bad then seek medical attention right away.

Never try to push through pain after an injury. Basketball is physically demanding, and injuries are relatively common. Being tough is one thing, but playing through injury can only harm you even further and make the problem much worse. If the injury feels too bad then seek medical attention right away.

Videotape your games to see what you do right and wrong. While reviewing the tape, look for opportunities you may have missed during the game. Assess yourself honestly, but don't be a harsh critic. A realistic view of yourself can be quite helpful.

A consistent routine will help you to achieve great free throws. If you aren't able to be consistent then you'll be off when you shoot. Practice makes perfect when shooting free throws. If you have a glitch in the routine, you are likely to miss your shot.

To get the rebound from the free throw your teammate is making, you need to do some fancy footwork. The defender that's below you will move towards you, so try to slip by them to obtain the ball. This allows you to grab the rebound legally.

Be sure that you're able to see clearly. Your eyesight will affect more than just making shots. You want your peripheral vision to be as good as it can. If you watch the entire game instead of just focusing on the basketball, you will be able to see open teammates and oncoming defensive players.

If you wish to succeed in a defensive role, you must be able to break your opponents' concentration. Force them to leave their comfort zone. Execute aggressive moves. This will keep them from being able to choose which plays they will make. If you let them, they'll totally take the control from you. Try to interrupt their game plan by taking charge and controlling the tempo.

Create a routine to improve your free throw success. If you are inconsistent then your shot will be off. Practicing your free throw again and again is the only way to perfect it. This will help you develop a routine. If that routine goes off, it will cause you to miss your shot.

Stay in your defensive stance while defending your basket against opponents. You can shuffle your feet to either side, or push with your opposing foot, so you will be ready and in position. Always keep your feet from crossing, and you will make it hard for any opponent to get past.

To enhance your skills at shooting the ball from the outside, run drills every day from different locations on the court. To improve further, work on fast dribbling just before shooting. Hone in on your target while you are jumping, but not before you leave the ground. This will mimic game conditions and help improve your accuracy.

Learning to fix your own car would bring you a great sense of accomplishment. Reading and learning as much as you can and transferring that knowledge onto the court will better your game. Have fun impressing your teammates with your new skills and win all the games you can.
