IBPS Clerk & IBPS PO Exam Syllabus

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts IBPS clerk & IBPS PO exams each year to recruit candidates for nationalized banks across India. These exams are highly competitive and very tough. Until now the IBPS clerk and IBPS PO exam pattern followed a regular system of a common written exam followed by a personal interview. Only those candidates who had obtained the highest scores in the written exam were eligible for the interview. Scores in the interview also decided who would be selected for the posts.

However, from 2016 onwards, the IBPS clerk & IBPS PO syllabus and exam patterns have been revised. For 2016 the IBPS clerk & IBPS PO exams will be held in December. IBPS Clerk syllabus and exam pattern The ibps clerk exam syllabus, in general has remained almost unchanged but the ibps bank clerk exam pattern has changed. Instead of a single exam, candidates have to appear for a preliminary exam and, if they pass this, they can be eligible for the final written exam. This is followed by a personal interview for highest scoring candidates.

IBPS clerk preliminary exam There are three papers comprising of English language, numerical ability and reasoning ability. English language paper is assigned 30 marks with 30 questions and the other two each have 35 questions with 35 marks, totaling 100. The test has to be completed in one hour. Highest scoring candidates will be called for the final written exam.

Both exams are objective, online type.

IBPS PO exam The IBPS PO exam pattern and syllabus are almost similar but with higher level of difficulty. The difference in the preliminary exam is that instead of numerical ability, the test is fro quantitative aptitude. The final IBPS PO exam has the same topics as the IBPS clerk exam with the same number of questions, marks and time for completion.

In one way it is easy for candidates. They can prepare first for the preliminary exam and become proficient in the 3 topics. From another angle of view it may not be quite convenient since candidates have to undergo the same test again in the final written exam. The purpose of bifurcating the test is to weed out candidates who are not sufficiently prepared.
