How to Stop Your Children Being Distracted In the Classroom...

When children are growing up, the world around them is a mystery so they are naturally curious about everything. In the classroom, the plan is that they will be most curious about what it is that you are trying to teach them. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and it may become a struggle to hold the attention of the class for the entire lesson. The main culprits are of course other children. Whilst classes of one child would be ideal, this is not realistic, so to keep the distractions to a minimum is the order of the day. Here is some advice in order to do just that... <br/><br/> Discipline <br/><br/> As a teacher you will already be well trained in how to keep your children in line when it comes to their decorum in the classroom. But when it comes to distractions, being able to nip a potential key distracter in the bud becomes all the more important. The old trick of moving the naughty child to the front to the front to keep an eye on them may work if they stop right away, but if they continue to be distracting as soon as your back is turned you might need to discipline them right away. Distraction is a killer for your class's ability to learn. One child ruining this is like they are taking away from every other child, even if they don't realise it at this stage. <br/><br/> Classroom Layout <br/><br/> One key thing you can do is to lay your classroom out so that you can limit any distractions. What you need to do, is as soon as you work out the most distracting children, and which are the best at working on their own, you can move your classroom furniture around into pods of about 4 or 5. Doing this you can have the most disruptive kids at one table, right in front of you with the most reliable kids furthest. Using school furniture this way you can spend most of your time right in front of your little distractions so you can prevent them from doing any damage. There are a variety of educational supplies and techniques to help with this kind of classroom problem. <br/><br/> Engaging Lessons <br/><br/> While you may have to work from a curriculum, there is nothing stopping you from injecting a bit of relish into your lessons. Kids react well to teachers that are fun and exciting. They will pay a lot more attention if you provide lessons that use props, interactivity, pictures and any kind of movement. Most kids get distracted because they are bored. <br/><br/> <br/><br/>
