Why Are School Tours So Much Fun?

School tours are a regular part of the activities of many schools. But why are they so important - and perhaps more importantly, so much fun as well? Most people will remember going on day trips when they were at school. Some people will recall going on even longer school tours as well, perhaps even for a week or so for example.

For the pupils a tour of this kind is a chance to get out of the classroom and into a different environment. This could be anything from a zoo to a museum, or anything in between. But the key aspect of it is that it is far away from the usual learning environment.

Of course teachers can benefit from going outside the classroom as well. They may get to see their pupils in a different state and they might discover that some of them learn better in different ways. Not everyone is well attuned to learn in a classroom, after all.

Sometimes it can depend on what kind of setting the trip chooses as a place to go out to. Both indoors and outdoors settings can be very conducive to the learning experience, and this means pupils and teachers can have a good time out and about instead of being cooped up in the classroom the whole time.

It opens up a whole new method of teaching as well. If the kids are in a museum they get to see more and learn more than they would normally. There are exhibits, some of which invite the pupils to be very hands on. Such exhibits can normally only be found in a museum, so there is no chance of getting up close to them in a normal classroom setting. Much more can be taught and learned during some school tours than the teachers would traditionally be able to get across.

The simple idea of being out of school and in a different location is exciting for the children as well. In fact it can mean that they remember things more readily, simply because they are in a more inviting and vibrant setting. This can work with all age groups too; it doesn’t just apply to younger children or to older ones who may be studying for exams for example.

So you can see that it pays dividends to organise some school tours on a regular basis, no matter where they might be going. This will give everyone the chance to enjoy some time away from school and yet still enjoy a different kind of learning experience. Regular trips also give everyone something to look forward to, much as you would look forward to a holiday for example. It’s the best way to make the most of teaching children in a brand new way and getting them out and about to enjoy some of the local sights that will help them in the learning experience.
