When Staying in Whitby, a Hotel or Bed and Breakfast may possibly be the right choice for you
When planning a holiday the choice of hotel or bed and breakfast style accommodation is one of the most important decisions to make, . The choice is not to be taken lightly as it will play a major role in whether the stay away is successful or not.
Another important decision is 'where to stay' in regard to the destination. In this current economic climate, the holiday at home option is appealing to more people with their decision to holiday at home as opposed to travelling abroad. Without the hassle of air travel it can be more convenient to simply take the car or public transport to wherever the choice may be in our country.

A Roman lighthouse on the cliff top was the earliest beginnings of the town followed by the founding of Whitby Abbey in 657AD by King Oswy of Northumbria. Over the years this town has flourished supporting such industries as the fishing, whaling and jet. It is famous for its seafaring connections with Sir Captain James Cook, the acclaimed explorer and discoverer apprenticed in the town before sailing off on his adventures. Sir William Scoresby and is son, inventors of the crows nest, were successful whaling captains sailing from the port.
Arriving in Whitby, there is a wide choice of Whitby accommodation available from which make a choice. The larger Whitby hotels are mainly situated on the West Cliff area on the cliff top affording some lucky visitors panoramic views of the sea. The accommodation is on a par with other resorts around the country and mostly subscribe to the English Tourist Board rules and regulations.They participate in a grading system which takes into account the furnishings, decor and services provided. From all the hotels on offer it is up to individual choice to make a selection. For those on a more modest budget, there is the choice of a bed and breakfast establishment. These are numerous and are to be found on the East side or the West side of the town. They too adhere to the rules and regulations laid down by the English Tourist Board. In fact, all the accommodation providers listed in the local tourism brochure must be inspected and verified. This goes in some part to reassure the visitor of the safety and quality of the accommodation chosen. The bed and breakfast option is a less formal way of enjoying a holiday, the welcome from the home owner and personal attention received cannot be replicated in the more formal setting of an hotel. For others, however, the anonymity of an hotel is a more comfortable option.
