List building is an important part of what you will do to start and grow an online business. There are a variety of ways to go about this, and I will share some of them with you here. These include creating a compelling free giveaway, setting up an affiliate promotion site, and giving away one of your products on someone else's download page. These are all strategies you may not be familiar with, so I will break them down for you here.
Long ago, years before I was working exclusively on the Internet, you could ask people to join your list and they would jump at the chance. Those days have been gone, as none of us wants to be on yet another person's email list. Offering free updates or a newsletter is not much better, as it is just not a good enough reason for someone to exchange their name and email address to receive this type of information.
The way to build your list is to offer a free giveaway in the form of a written report, and audio recording, or a video that will answer your prospect's questions and help them, at least in part, to solve their problems. Take your time in creating this and you will see that visitors to your site will respond in a huge way by opting in and remaining on your list to learn more.
Setting up a site to recommend affiliate products works extremely well in most niches. Here your free giveaway may be something created by the product owner. Instead of simply sending people to someone else's site through your affiliate link, you are building a list of interested prospects who will then to take to the affiliate site after they opt in to join your list.
Another excellent list building strategy is to offer one of your more inexpensive products to someone else's download page. When I first heard about this I thought about the times when I had purchased something and had been offered a free course or training. Now I regularly ask people if they will give away one of my products on their download page to help me build my list.
