Remodeling Kitchens: Organize and De - Clutter
A cheaper way to find more storage space in your kitchen is to eliminate things that you do not really use. If you cook on holidays, you may want to get ready by making your kitchen a little more friendly to work in. Organize kitchen clutter so that when you look for something in your kitchen you will be able to find it.
Here's an inventory of the things we have in our kitchen and this inventory will help you start thinking about what you can gift to others. It will also help you identify things you use a lot, or would like to use more often if they were easy to reach. The idea is to make those items more easily accessible.
Remodeling Kitchens: What's in Your Kitchen?
Tucked inside our kitchen cabinets are many things and sometimes because of the load we can't seem to see what in there. Let's explore what we keep in our kitchens and how we can lessen how much there is:
• Consumable "food" products - include all of our canned foods, boxes of cereal, baking ingredients, soda and other bottled drinks. Most of this lives in the pantry or cabinets, plus of course, we store lots of food in the refrigerator and freezer.
• Non-consumable products - things that we use for eating like glasses, dishes and silverware. You need to decide on how many sets of dishes or glasses you really need to achieve the goal of de - cluttering. Then we have plastic containers to store leftovers and disposables like napkins and paper towels.
• Food preparation items - include everything we use for cooking and baking. We have mixing bowls, pots and pans, baking dishes, cookie sheets and utensils. We also collect lots of gadgets to save time like a mixer, blender, a waffle iron and more. If you can't remember when you last used something, maybe you don't need to keep it any longer.
• Cleaning supplies - are what we use to clean up after cooking, baking or eating. There's dish soap and dishwasher detergent, sponges and more stuff than I want to list here. It's hard to put everything away, when you bought them in bulk to save money.
Allocate certain cabinets for each type of item however when you run out of space in a cabinet, prioritize things that you always use. If you only bake 2 or 3 times a year, you probably don't need to devote 2 cabinets to baking items.
Remodeling Kitchens: Items to Display on Open Shelving
Let's look at all the spaces where we can store things in the kitchen, out in the open:
• Display your dishes on open shelving.
• Store beautiful pots where it's accessible so it's easy to reach and use!
• Where you have little nooks, add shelves and/or hooks and store frequently used items like spices, cereal bowls and coffee cups.
• Try to build a shelf for cookbooks to avoid stocking them up in valuable counter space.
• Double down a door which will gain you very creative space.
