HcG, Low Calorie, Dieters Can Enhance Their Experience.

by Steve Toc

If you are on a diet of any kind, here are some additional things you need to know in order to have a more positive experience. Recent scientific evidence proves too little known secrets to help you lose weight.

The topic of weight loss and obesity are in the headlines almost every day. According to the Center for disease control in Atlanta, it has reached epidemic proportions with 81% of Americans being overweight and the incidence of clinical obesity steadily increasing. In fact in 1991 there were no states that had obesity levels more than 20% and only a handful were over 15% of the population. Nine years later the statistics show that 22 states now have 20% or more of their population being obese.

Fat Is Storage Site For Toxins

When talking about weight loss, we mean the loss of fat and the preservation of lean muscle. Since the 1940s there have been literally tens of thousands of new toxic substances and molecules that have been introduced into our living environment that never existed before. Pesticides, herbicides, preservatives, fire retardants, poisons and a myriad of other substances have found a way into our air, water, food supplies and our living environment inside of our homes and out.

When these toxic substances get into the body, the body actually produces fat in order to entrap or slow down the metabolizing of the substances. Any diet even worth considering is one in which the design is to burn fat while preserving lean muscle. In the burning of fat, these toxins are released into the body. They form free radicals which do damage to our cells

Free radicals are unstable molecules which are missing an electron. They seek to stabilize themselves by taking an electron from the cells of your body. The result of this is a ripping and tearing of cell walls in order to steal that extra electron. These damaged cells can become cancerous or susceptible to other diseases.

Dieters that are using a rapid fat burning diet with restricted calories have somewhat of a challenge. Because of the limited intake of food rich in antioxidants and the rapid burning of fat which in turn is quickly releasing toxins back into the body there may be a need to supplement with an antioxidant.

Antioxidants are important because they have an Extra Electron to give up to the free radical thus stabilizing them. While many antioxidants on the market can have a high advertised ORAC number, they may prove disappointing. The reason for this is because most ORAC studies on juices, berries, fruits, vegetables, etc; are performed in the laboratory using an ORAC machine. This stands for, Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity. The problem occurs in the processing of those substances into their final consumable form such as a juice or powder. This is when they lose their actual ORAC value.

Dieters who choose to supplement with an antioxidant to protect themselves from the damage of free radicals being released out of the fat molecules, should seek out a supplement where the ORA C value has been tested with blood serum. This is a Blood Serum ORAC value and is the way the FDA and the Department of Agriculture test.

Those Gutsy Bugs

A more recent scientific discovery is in the area of the fauna and flora in the human gut. Studies conducted at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis Missouri in 2006 (1), and GHENT University in GHENT Belgium in 2010(2) show that certain bacteria in the gut also help the body to rid itself of fat.

For example the Washington University study has shown both obese people and mice had more Firmicutes bacteria, while Bacteroidetes were the predominant bacteria in thinner individuals. Firmicutes are efficient but fat producing bacterium and Bacteroidetes are the opposite.

The efficient bacteria extract calories form food rapidly. When this happens the body can't always handle or even need the calories at that time so it stores them as fat.

When the Firmicutes bacteria were transplanted from obese mice to lean mice, the lean mice began getting fatter. This seems to support the theory that the bacteria that populate the intestines play an important role in regulating one's weight.

This research points to the importance of the studies conducted at GHENT University in 2010. These studies were conducted on a specific group of nutrients called glyconutrients and showed that these nutrients help support the Bacteroidetes bacteria in positive and selective ways.

This research may also point to the fact that while some cleanses may be good, many may not be. Cleanses that would wash the good bacteria out of the gut, or medicines that kill off those bacteria may not be helpful for the person who is trying to lose fat and preserve lean muscle.

Randy Seeley an obesity researcher at the University of Cincinnati said "we really don't understand why rates of obesity are increasing" and he goes on to say "the Washington University research opens up the possibility that one difference may have to do with our gut/bacterial flora/bacteria".

One way or another, this all seems to point to diet. Diet along with exercise and a healthy lifestyle still remain the key. Diets rich in antioxidants and glyconutrients are an important key for the diet conscious individual. Our food sources being what they are today with the general depletion of nutrients from our soils and studies conducted by the US Department of Agriculture confirm this and now even the American Medical Association seem to indicate that supplementation is no longer just important but essential.
