Oranges are commonly grown in humid temperature. Generally orange fruits have flavors like sour to sweet. Orange fruit is wrapped with its peel. We squeeze and wring the orange fruit to taste its juice and we generally peel the fruit to taste its flavor. Oranges are generally oval or sphere shape. They have a leathery, permeable skin. The color of the orange skin varies from orange to red orange. Orange fruit is with various varieties like the sour orange, the sweet orange and the tangerine or mandarin orange. Orange trees exceed upto a height of 30ft. The flowers are white and perfumed and the leaves are elliptical and sleek. Three varieties of indispensable oils are acquired from Oranges. Oil of petigrain which is got from the leaves and twigs of the orange and it is made use in fragrance and perfumery, Oil of orange which is got from the peel of the fruit are made use as a flavoring agent, Oil of neroli which is got from the blossoms are used as a perfumery and flavoring agent.The two types of oranges that is, the sweet orange were introduced in the 15th century by Genoese traders where as the sour orange were introduced in the 10th century by the Arabs. Orange fruits belong to the type Citrus of the unit Rutaceae. The sour or Seville orange is categorized as Citrus aurantium, the sweet orange is categorized as Citrus sinensis, the tangerine or mandarin orange is classified as Citrus reticulata. The chief varieties of the sweet oranges grown by orange cultivators in eastern United States are Hamlin and Parson Brown, seedy varieties having thin, brunette skin and juicy pulp. The varieties of navel oranges are with medium thick peel. These oranges are seedless. A particular variety of navel orange in Washington is the chief orange product of Texas. Nearly 20 percent of the entire orange crop has been sold as a complete fruit; the remaining oranges are used for making tined orange juices and extracts.There are several criteria’s to be followed in handling and storing the Oranges and they are.•Maintain fresh oranges in a chill, airy and spacious area.•Keep container on pallets inedible to the ground for best air flow.•The suitable warmth assortment for citrus space is about 45° to 48° F. •Oranges should be washed gently under dirt free flowing tap water before tasting it.•Washing the fruit will remove the dirt and germs of the fruit and it would be germ free.
