Preventing Acne With Simple Skin Care

Acne prevention techniques

I love fall. It reminds me that as the days shorten and the workload outside lessens, I can get back to more simple routines. The same can be said for skin care, and while I spend a great dealof time educating folks on what is good and not good for their skinfrom a natural holistic approach, there are really 5 things yourskin needs everyday.

I want to spend a little time this week exploring this with you. The first and obvious one is your cleansing routine. How you cleanse your skin is the foundation of any skin-care routine. It is the process you use to remove excess dirt, pollutants andtoxins from the environment, as well as pore-clogging products fromthe skin's surface so it can remain blemish-free. Most importantly it also prepares the skin for any treatments or products you'll be using, so active ingredients (like vitamins or sunscreen) can penetrate and actually be effective. This is usually the first thing I look at when working with one onone clients, because not all cleansers are the same.

First, your face wash or cleanser should always be soap free. Most soap products you use on the rest of your body are typically too harsh for the face. I have found clients using things like an Irish Spring soap bar (guys!) and even their shampoo (ladies!) to wash their face! A Big No-No! As with most skin-care products, you need to pick one that suits your skin type. For very dry skin, you might want to go with a creamy cleanser made from olive or castor oil. The Ginale Skin Care line for example, uses one that is olive oil and glycerin based. Glycerin is great for dry and/or sensitive skin as well. Learn More About Ginale Skin Care.

Your face wash should always be alcohol-free, whether a cream style one or not. Oily prone skin can benefit from an acidic cleanser, like a glycerin based alpha-hydroxy product, which does a better job of breaking up skin oil that can contribute to getting clogged pores. Whichever cleanser you chose it is important to gently massage itinto your face for at least 20 seconds so it has a chance to do itsjob and rinse it off very well. Good cleansing is the first important step in properly caring for your skin. Doing it correctly will go a long way to promoting skin health and cellular renewal.
