5 Ways a Director Can Help His Employees

Head Honchos Need help to...

by Sam Qam

At the top of many companies sits a director or two who are either the owners of the company, or are given the task of running the whole company by the owner. The job of a director is an important one and is both highly desirable and keenly avoided depending on the company itself. Any company that is doing well will have a proud director standing at the top lording over their accomplishments while companies not doing so well may find a stressed out director scowling down at managers or leaping on a plane to escape troubles.

One of the most important things for directors to do is to remember their employees and the work they do as this ultimately reflects on their personal success. Here is some advice for directors to help them help their employees.

Be visible

One of the most important things for a director to do is to be seen by their employees. Too often directors can get so caught up in their work that they forget that employees want to see them occasionally and instead lock themselves in their offices. Being seen can provide employees with a sense of perspective in the company and so they can put a face on the executive part of the company. This is good for employee morale.

Communicate

As well as being visible to employees it is important to communicate with them on some level. One way is to have a company meeting every month or so to gather everyone together and give them an idea of what the company as a whole is up to. Sending an email round everyone can have the same affect. Also, providing an email address where employees can get in touch directly will make staff feel more valued...as long as you reply.

Rewards

Staff rewards doled out by the director again lets everyone feel more involved and gives directors a chance to say thank you in person and not just in a New Year newsletter.

Good appointments

Directors can really help their employees by employing good managers. By only hiring people that are of the highest calibre, directors ensure that the working life of every employee under that manager is that much better. For example, a director of an offshore company Cyprus employed an award winning manager from another Cyprus offshore company and their staff retention levels improved.

Forward thinking

By planning ahead and making sure new areas of business are addressed and staff are appropriately trained for future changes in the company, you will make sure employees respect your decisions at every turn and you will have more chance of retaining your best employees. Think forward with your staff and not only your wallet.
