Making A Difference, Breaking The Ritual
I grew up in the suburbs surrounded by a community of people who were into some business of their own, they were mainly diamond merchants, cloth merchants, share traders, brokers, and some had electronics goods shop. The trend was such that my friends though studying didn't have the dream of becoming a doctor or engineer or taking up a job. Even they knew that they will be joining their fathers in their family business. That was not the case in my house. We were the odd one out, in our house my dad had a nine to five job and the most important thing in our life was to get good education. I and my sister went to the nearby English medium school. My sister was the first girl in our neighborhood to study in an English medium school. The talk of business and money was a big taboo in our household.
Like the ritual in our family we completed our basic school and college education, took up a computer course, did our post graduation studies and got a white collar nine to five job. Even my sister after completing her education started working in a bank. But my friends in the neighborhood almost all of them who have dropped out of college within a year or two had joined their father in business or their fathers have set up an entirely new business for them. After two to three years of my job I had little savings at my perusal and nothing else, while my friends were buying cars, fancy mobiles and some even looking forward to get a house on their own. This was very frustrating as my life was slow paced and the politics in the office was taking me nowhere.
After a lot of thought and calculations and discussions with the family even I thought of setting up a business venture like my friends. My sister and mother supported me out front but father needed a lot of persuasion. He agreed only after I presented him a clear business proposal. To my surprise he liked it and even offered his help in the initial setup. Well my plan was to open a Computer training institute and also providing services like DTP, data conversion and internet café.
All was set and I could open my institute within a month's time. On the very first day many students enrolled for training and they were mostly my friends. Now even they needed computer technology and knowledge in their ventures.
Five years down the line self and my business have grown to a next level. I have 4 Institutes in this city and the courses offered are also specified like Microsoft certifications, itil v3 training computer networking, CCNA security training, network security, itil course cisco certifications etc. My father is very happy and proud of me. With good education and right attitude I have been able to achieve success in my life.
