Smoking an Electronic Cigarette, how do they compare
It's hard to believe that there is such a thing as an electronic cigarette, but there is and I smoke one regularly. So if you're curious I'm going to tell you how it feels and how it compares to smoking real cigarettes. For some background info I smoked since I was seven years old. Yes, I said 7. I used to take my mother's cigarettes and she never really seemed to mind. It was the sixties, bad parenting? Sure, but out of ignorance of the damage that cigarettes could do rather than negligence. I didn't become a serious smoker until I was about 17 and had a job which enabled me to buy them. But smoke I did, at least a pack a day for many many years with repeated attempts to stop. Like many smokers I used to say that giving up was easy I did it thousands of times.
The truth is though I have finally mastered the art of giving up and have remained tobacco free, since I started to smoke electronic cigarettes. For me it has been the only viable alternative, nothing else has worked patches or pills or even will power, or the death of four aunts and uncles and my mother, smokers all, who died from cancer, it's amazing but none of these things really make a difference to the committed smoker, that's how powerful the hold nicotine has on our bodies.
So what about the electronic cigarette, well for a start it may or may not contain nicotine, that's up to you and also the degree of nicotine in the mix, is your decision. They usually come with four strengths depending on your craving and you can mix the e-liquids to vary how much nicotine you take in. The first electronic cigarette I had was without nicotine, I was amazed at the amount of similarities it had with real cigarettes, the feel, the drag action, the vapour produced, it resembled smoking in almost every respect, except for what vapers call the "throat hit." This I understood immediately, the sensation that you get when smoking tobacco when the smoke hits your throat just wasn't there with my nicotine free ecig. I vaped happily enjoying the action and the vapour produced blowing the occasional smoke ring, but there was no real satisfaction, which meant I was still smoking real cigarettes.
However the next batch of e-liquids I ordered was with nicotine and as soon as I took my first drag I felt the throat hit I'd been missing. I ordered medium, the second lowest amount and found that it was more than equal to my regular cigarettes. The sensation was different to smoking, but it gave me what I craved in terms of throat hit and nicotine, so I was able to stop smoking cigarettes. I'm not saying it's exactly the same, it's not, but it is more than adequate to replace the smoking habit. I have been vaping now for a couple of months and have never felt the need to smoke a real cigarette. The added benefits are that I feel better, smell better and can vape indoors, nice. I'm definitely not going back to tobacco. Although it's not perfect yet, there are so many options and different ejuices available to try that I don't see the need to ever smoke again. The next step will be to reduce my nicotine intake and eventually become completely nicotine free and it's all thanks to the electronic cigarette.
