Whether you are planning a reception or planning to attend one, wedding receptions are one of the best parts of any wedding day. They are the big party: the party to celebrate two people's love for one another and a way to show off your new love with dancing, eating and general merry making. But when you have been to a few wedding receptions you may grow to become a bit of an expert at what went well and what didn't. Here are a few things you may look out for at your next reception:<br/><br/> Food<br/><br/> One of the trickiest things (and the most expensive) to get right at a wedding reception is the food; what with vegans and fruitarians in the world, judging the menu takes a bit of skill and a lot of planning. The best set up is probably a buffet as you can have cheaper dishes made in larger portions, less waiting staff and the option of not having to have a kitchen on site. The problem with buffets is that you may have to queue. Another good way is to have a mix of buffet and sit down meal. The Polish system has a little bit of service, then a load of buffet stuff as well available all night. Anything close to this, and obviously good quality food too, makes for good reception nosh. <br/><br/> Music<br/><br/> No reception would work without music. A top quality wedding reception DJ is hard to find as they tend to be either too cheesy or too much of a Ministry of Sound wannabe. Finding a good DJ agency can help you make sure you get just what you want. The best wedding receptions however, will have a mix of both good DJ or a couple of great cover bands. Find something everyone will like: maybe swing music, céilidh music or even rock music and your wedding will be a blast. Any good wedding band should be able to play a whole range of music styles. <br/><br/> Speeches<br/><br/> Ah the speeches. No wedding would be complete without sweaty browed best men and lots of rude uncomfortable jokes to make your grandmother blush. Bad speeches, are always either too long and boring or too short and impersonal. The best way to do it is to have shorter more meaningful speeches. Also, if the best man really doesn't want to do it, don't make him! Why stick to stuffy traditions. If the bridesmaid wants a speech, let her speech! A sign of a good set of speeches is when everyone almost cries, but then laughs. <br/><br/> <br/><br/>
