Truck Fuel Tank Containment

by containmentcorp

Tri-Star Spill Containment Systems have been developed to provide fuel facilities and fuel operations to meet SPCC requirements for Fuel Tanks, Fuel Tankers,Refuelers, Aircraft, Transformers, and Heavy Equipment . Heavy Duty Steel Systems created with the concept of a permanent spill containment system that can handle heavy tire traffic and general wear-and tear from an array of vehicles and equipment. The base of the system is a ¼” Steel core encased in fiberglass with glass mat or an epoxy coat if desired. Tri-Linear ¼” Steel Walls stand up to extreme impact when necessary. The triangular design provides an extra steel plate for support compared to a 90-degree wall which is a single plate welded to the base. 90-degree wall is available if customer requires. For lower walled systems, such as our Tri-Star Containment Pad, no ramps are necessary and Fueling Vehicles can enter the system at any angle. For higher-walled (6”-10”) systems, such as our Tri-Star Max and Tri-Star OPS for Refuelers and Fuel Tankers, heavy-duty steel ramps are installed for easy entry and exit. Drain ports are placed in all four corners and can be plugged or a drain can be added as needed. Drains are equipped with a Filter Box containing Spill Response Sorbents to remove hydrocarbons or other hazardous liquids from water. Finally, multiple Tri-Star Containment Systems can be plumbed together to share capacity and double the overall containment capacity of both systems. Previously, concrete spill containment systems were the only option for long-term Tanker Spill Prevention Plans for facilities. After establishing the need for a better long-term Secondary Containment option for the vast array of Tankers in the field the Tri-Star line was created. Concrete Spill Containment Systems have three major issues that the Tri-Star Spill Containment System has addressed: 1.) Expensive engineering and planning costs. 2.) Ineffective Spill Containment - Concrete systems have proven to absorb liquids from spills over time, and cracking can allow spilled liquids to flow through the system and build up over time unnoticed. 3.) Un-Relocatable – Concrete systems are permanently in place and cannot be altered without expensive engineering costs, or demolition and starting over. Tri-Star systems are surface-mounted and not affixed to the substrate, and do not require any engineer involvement. Minimal planning can be done between the customer and a knowledgeable Containment Corporation sales associate. Secondly, the heavy-duty steel plate throughout the base and walls of the Tri-Star Spill Containment System ensure no cracking or absorption occurs over time. Finally, Tri-Star Systems all have a modular design and can be relocated as necessary. The Tri-Star Containment Pad and the Tri-Star Max Spill Containment System can be disassembled into panels that can easily be moved by forklift. While the Tri-Star OPS (One-Piece System) Spill Containment System was designed to require no disassembly and can be moved by crane.

Common vehicles contained within Tri-Star Spill Containment Systems are the Army’s HEMTT Refuelers, the Air Force’s R11 Refuelers, Above-Ground Storage Tanks, Commercial Tankers and Refuelers, Large Transformers, and Heavy Equipment. The primary use of a Tri-Star Spill Containment System is “drive-in and drive-out” secondary containment for incidental spills from fueling, maintenance, or a rupture of the primary containment vessel. Tri-Star Spill Containment Systems can be converted into remote Wash Systems, so vehicles can be washed, and water run-off is contained or filtered through the drain. Wash Pads have been created for a wide variety of vehicles, including Helicopters and Planes.Tri-Star Spill Containment Systems has thrived in locations all around the world, such as: the frigid conditions of the North Slope in Alaska; the rainy tropical conditions of the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Guam; and extreme desert conditions of Death Valley and the deserts of Australia.

Another important aspect of the Tri-Star Spill Containment System is the surface-mounted modular design of the Containment Pad, which does not require any alteration to the substrate. The Containment Pad relies on the sheer weight of the heavy-dutysteel core along with an abrasive bottom coat that has been tested and proven to not move when struck by tankers at all angles. Furthermore, buildings or canopies can be anchored to the base of the secondary containment pad to make a free-standing, surface-mounted structure. Tri-Star Spill Containment Structures allow access to Tanks, Tankers and Equipment anytime and helps prevent any weather damage to the vehicle and primary containment vessel. Tri-Star Spill Containment Structures do not have hefty planning and engineering costs associated with most structure installations on facilities. Windows, Skylights, and various other accessories are available for Tri-Star Buildings. Ground anchors are available if the Tri-Star System or Tri-Star Structure is required to be mounted to the substrate.
