Ovral Pill for Women is a Surest Way to Birth Control

by Olivia Stewart

A lot many women these days wish to manage their pregnancy with birth control measures. The easiest, surest, and safest to use are Ovral tablets for contraception. It can be taken as regular contraceptive or in emergency situation after unprotected sex, or when non-hormonal contraceptive device is assumed to malfunction. The medicine must be taken within 5 days from last intercourse.

The content of medication, norgestrel and ethinyloestradiol prevent maturation of eggs i.e. ovulation, thicken cervical mucus, stop sperms from spreading in the uterus and contacting any mature egg. It also breaks the endometrium lining, which implants a fertilized egg. Thus, pregnancy is prohibited safely. However, the medicine has to be used as dose indication for maximum efficacy. When eggs are not present for fertilization, and uterine implantation line alters, then possibility to pregnancy is nil.

Once the cervical mucus thickens in consistency, even sperm cannot reach the eggs. In the initial 3 months of the medicine, the female may get breakthrough bleeding. When Ovral tablet course concludes, then ‘withdrawal bleeding’ commences during the 7 day of inert pill intake or placebo period. Using another contraceptive is not necessary after the initial week of birth control pill regimen.

Dosage Schedule

After an unprotected intercourse, contraceptive medication must be taken within 120 hours. Use two tablets orally, and then repeat the same after 12 hours of the initial dosage. Any delay in consumption may make the tablet ineffective in preventing pregnancy. For regular use, Ovral pills are available in either 21 day or 28 day format. In 21 day format, take orally a tablet everyday at the same time. Start on the first day of the menses or the very first Sunday of the period.

Utilize non hormonal birth control for the initial 7 days of the medication course. Take a medicine in a gap of 24 hours each. After the hormonal tablets get over by 21 days, give an internal of 7 days, and do not use any birth control pill during this period. In 28 days course, the dose is same like 21 days. But the last 7 days, the user has to take an inert tablet each day as a replacement to the seven day placebo. The woman must not smoke, drink alcohol during the regimen.

Side Effects

The efficacy of birth control medicines is quite high and these hardly cause any irksome side effects. Most of the women do not even notice any consequences to Ovral tablets. But, some of the common side effects are headache, nausea, irregular periods, vomiting etc. These symptoms are shirt lived and disappear quickly. However, the user must meet a doctor if she notices dark urine, breast lumps, bad abdominal pain, depression, sudden heavy bleeding, jaundice, continuous spotting etc.

Rare Complications

In rare instances the medication may lead to heart attach, blood clot issues, stroke, vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism etc. Medical attention is required, if the user notices warmth/swelling/pain in arm, calf, jaw, groin, chest, sudden dizziness, rapid breathing, worsening headache/migraines, slurred speech, vision alterations, weakness, unusual sweating/palpitations, and other unexplained health issues. Allergic action to the medication leads to skin rash/itch/swell/redness, trouble breathing, and irritation on tongue, face, and throat.
