How To Tap Into Your Fatherly Instincts
Shortly before my daughter was born, I was extremely excited about getting to be a father for the very first time. However, a couple of weeks before she was actually born I really started to become quite fearful, which was really strange because I was pretty excited throughout my wife's pregnancy and did not have very much hesitation about anything that was to come. I suppose I had been putting all of my fears aside and ignoring them as best as I possibly could, but as my wife's due date approached, I could definitely feel a number of knots building in my stomach. It was an extremely difficult time for me as I would lay awake at night wondering about all of these issues that I was soon going to have to deal with, and I wasn't sure if I was going to be up to being a good father.
I always assumed that I was going to be a good father and it was never an issue with me, until the moment was finally about to stare me in the face. Once my baby was born, at first I was extremely afraid to even touch her because it seemed like she may break. I wasn't even sure how to hold her, even though I had read so much about it. Eventually, I learned how to hold her and how to bathe and dress her, and these were things that I learned how to do through experience. I wasn't perfect at many things I did with my daughter in the beginning, but I continued to learn and grow as a father. I realized that I did indeed have fatherly instincts, and they were something that I had to learn how to tap into. Once I learned how to trust myself and my gut, I really started to become comfortable in my role as a father.
If you are a new father, or you are expecting your first child, you're going to go through a lot of similar fears just like I did. They may not come while your wife is pregnant and they might come several months after your child is actually born. However, I can assure you that these fears are going to come at one point or another. The best thing that you can do, is to try and tap into your own parental instinct, as mothers are not the only ones who have them. You will find that while what I'm telling you right now doesn't make much sense, once you have your own child the picture will become much more clear
