The Entrepreneur In Challenging Times

Thanksgiving is just a few days away and winter and the Christmas holidays are just around the corner. In a world reeling from the economic crisis, Thanksgiving is as always a time to pause and reflect and celebrate all the things that we should be thankful for. The spirit of Thanksgiving extends far beyond America's borders because of the shared hopes, dreams and aspirations of people all over the world.

Friends and allies from all the corners of the world have every faith and confidence in the ability of the American people to lead the international economy back from the brink and on the road to stability and prosperity once again. As always, "times of adversity are also times of opportunity".

An American President once remarked that far from entering into a winter of decay and retreat, America has the capacity to usher in a new springtime. For all the countries throughout the world who look up to America's leadership, this is an article of faith. America is still the most formidable nation on Earth and the energy, creativity and vitality that had always been its hallmark is only waiting to be unleashed.

These are challenging times with a global economic downturn and the prospect of a full-blown recession staring the world in the face; these are times of job losses, high unemployment rates and financial insecurity. After the Great Depression, the United States led the world to unprecedented heights of prosperity after World War II. As the mightiest engine of economic growth in the world, the task of leading the international economy back to financial health and steady growth will once again fall on America's capable shoulders.

Opportunities abound and this is a call to action for people not only in America but all over the world. It is not only up to Government and Big Business to rally people to the task at hand. Just as importantly, it is up to small entrepreneurs from every nook and cranny of this great world of ours to provide impetus and muscle to this great effort to get the world economy back on track. We will get through this and prevail and come out stronger and renewed.

We have much to be thankful for and the prospect of a prosperous, green and healthy world is something to look forward to and aspire for. This is not a time for passive indifference; this is not a time for recrimination and blame-setting; this is a time to show the world once again how the free enterprise economy always manages to bring out the creativity, initiative and audacity that have always set budding entrepreneurs apart from the rest of the pack through all these years.
