17 Ways to Use Assessments to Keep Visitors' Interest Alive in Your Website and Products

by Kathy Sparks

Assessments are being used in a number of ways in the coaching, teaching, career, employment, well being, health, nutrition and many other service type industries. Assessments are also being used for testing, providing examinations, and assessing the proficiency of employees' comprehension in relation to the work they are doing. Jobs like customer service, technical support, software program knowledge, hardware knowledge, management and administration style can be tested by giving a simple and informative assessment.

Assessments are often used to determine what type of profession an individual would be most suited for. Coaches frequently use assessments to determine what area of coaching a person would be best suited for, for instance, career coaching, fitness or health coaching, or maybe relationship coaching.

Having your website guests "take a look at themselves" without obligation is a terrific strategy to gain your respect and keep them coming back. Assessments are great tools for the opening conversation and a great reason for you to contact them, or at least send them a series of autoresponders about their results. If you have any kind of form that needs filling out, use assessments and save time and money. Assessments pre-qualify people for you, without you having to spend your time on the phone with them trying to determine their need or their interest. How many people have you spent an hour or more with on the phone, just to find out they are "fishing" for free information? Assessments weed those people out.

If you provide a product or service, assessments can be used to engage your website guests who need to know more about what you have to offer by helping them determine which product is best suited for them, or at which level to begin a series of classes.

Assessments may be the best method of creating a communication path to potential clients and customers and collecting their feedback.

Following is a list of nineteen ways to keep visitors interest alive in your website and product.

1. Employers - create a personality assessment. Pre-hire character screening assessments specifically created for your company are most important when you are making a hiring decision. Create quick, simple, and fun assessments. Assessments are a simple tool to recommend individuals with certain personalities that are best suited to certain careers. See if your potential new hire will fit in your organization culture.

2. Business - Create assessments to help people determine the best business they might be suited for, i.e. a franchise, home based, day care. Results can then be linked to additional assessments to find out the type of daycare, for instance, which type of franchise is best suited for a particular person.

3. Caseworkers, clinicians & counselors - provide online assessments to enable agencies to easily collect data, track progress and offer solutions for individual needs, stress level, depression issues etc.

4. Customer Service - create an assessment to analyze how an employee is representing your organization when he/she answers the phone for you.

5. Software Tech - create an assessment to determine the depth and type of software program a possible employee will best fit into the company. Help employees demonstrate any new abilities, talents and skills by letting them take assessments a number of times during a year.

6. Hardware Tech - be certain that your employees and potential employees can tackle the problems that might be introduced to them by your customers, clients and prospects. Re-assess their skills a couple times a year. Assessments are appropriate when the information, skill, or ability they measure can clearly be shown to be job-related and is not easily trainable once the individual is on the job.

7. Coach Training - assist your coach trainees to determine their area of interest in the type of coaching they are best suited for or the type of clients they should pursue. Using the information gained through assessments, the coach can encourage and support and help the development of the trainee and enable the trainee to connect more powerfully with others.

8. Coaches - use online assessments for your in-take forms - have your new client fill in the "discovery" form online. The use of assessments will make your clients and prospects think much deeper than before. Used appropriately, the right assessment is a key part of the coaching conversation. Many types and varieties of assessments have been used for many years, in consulting and psychotherapy as well as coaching. Samples of coaching assessment can be found at www.coachingassessments.com

9. Employment Agencies and Temporary Agencies - give your "temps" assessments to find the very best job they are suited for and the depth to which they know the subject. This enables you to better match your client with the needs of your customers. Assessments are a great time to make initial contact online and encourage your visitor to come to you for help in finding a job. Having the outcomes of the assessment in hand, a hiring career professional can more intelligently talk about what the client's needs/wants are and how the career center can assist with meeting those needs.

10. Clubs & Associations - Assessments can be used to determine at what level an individual should be put into to correctly balance competition, personalities and performance. Tennis Clubs, golfing clubs even pool tournaments can utilize the data collected from assessments to help participants by understanding their level of proficiency, and matching them with the correct level of competition. This is important not only to the club, but to the participant.

11. Fitness and Health Centers and Facilities - Create assessments for new clients to determine the individual's preferred types of exercise and training, his/her motivation and communication preferences, and their fitness and health goals. A coach/manager account can be established for the trainer/coach to manage and have access to the client assessments.

12. Athletic Teams - Properly designed assessments can help to determine a team member's strength, power and energy level, as well as problem areas or emotional obstacles and boundaries that that might prevent a player from reaching peak performance. Assessments may also help determine the level of stress a player may be experiencing.

13. Relationships - determine where your web site guests are in their relationships, what issues they are dealing with, what their objectives are for better relationships. Then send out follow up emails to help with each situation.

14. Families and Parenting - assessments are excellent self-study to help an individual learn where they may need help in their parenting or family relationships - why they are experiencing unhappy situations and then offer materials for improving the problems.

15. Feedback - the most successful businesses listen to what their customers say about their customer service, their products, and their company. A feedback form after every purchase of a product or service is essential to constantly improving your offerings, including ease of website use, quickness of resolution, and how your customer service was.

16. Nutritionists - Prepare an online self-assessment with critical questions about daily nutrition habits. Assessments are useful for schools and parents. Depending on the results, offer a customized follow-up e-course or tips for improving cooking, food choices, shopping.

17. Travel - Give a free assessment to determine the visitors "bucket list" of places they want to visit. Then follow up with excellent deals for traveling to those places. Assessments are useful to determine where a person is in his/her current situation to find out how to move forward and improve. Assessments are unique in that they adapt to each person's ability, accurately measuring what an individual knows and needs to learn. Good information can measure growth, progress and development over time. This is the means for you to provide your professional services in response to their assessment results.

Assessments are easy and straightforward to administer and convenient to use using online tools. They are a diagnostic exercise, carried out by you, as the professional, to consider the current situation of your client, customer, employee or student. Although assessments can be any length needed, a good rule of thumb is to keep it short and quick enough to maintain the participant's attention and interest. Keep in mind to always add your visitors name and email address to your "prospects" database when they take an assessment. Additionally, you can prepare automatic follow up emails to send your prospects once they have taken the assessment using your autoresponder service.

If you are currently having people fill in forms or spending time on the phone asking questions and taking notes, you can easily transform those forms and questions to online assessments, have them automatically scored and analyzed, and you receive the results through email, print them out for your file, or review the results online. There are online tools available to create assessments easily and quickly. The tool most recommended is listed below.
