Michael Atma and His Future Proof Traffic Manifesto - Insanity or Genius?
When I first heard about Michael Atma coming out the woodwork for the first time in a while, with his Future Proof Traffic Manifesto, I was kind of taken aback, wondering why in the heck he'd do that, and if he's actually going to follow through and reveal all.
You'll know yourself the scepticism surrounding these courses, thinking there's always something left out.
I mean, why go the trouble of risking your own successful SEO consulting business, by revealing what it is you're up to, to dominate in organic search?
You'd think when every other SEO consultant is scampering for the hills because they're manually building links hands over fist, that the successful guys that's still doing the same "old school" optimisation, would want to be flying beneath the radar. Safeguarding their techniques to avoid their business being slammed by the next algorithmic update.
Even crazier is that we all know search engines do manual site reviews. What's to stop them stepping it up, signing up with the SEO service, and getting the nitty-gritty details on everything an agency is doing to rank clients sites at the top of search continually.
Does any of that phase Michael Atma?
Hats off to the guy as despite the fears of many other consultants, Michael knows what it takes to not only rank in search for even the most competitive of keyword strings, but to put a complete stranglehold on them, and then have the gonads to reveal his strategies publicly!
Does he care that he's releasing the most powerful of his knowledge to any SEO consultant that could go into direct competition with him?
No.
I suppose that's the thing when you get to become a seven-figure consultant. You probably couldn't care less about the competition. After all, being able to rank on demand brings financial security in itself.
Let's face it... Worst-case scenario, competition strikes at your existing site. You know how to rank, so you just do the same again, and continue to finance your business ventures. There's certainly a multitude of monetisation options for any type of website.
Slap up some advertisements, run some CPA offers, hook into affiliate programs, heck even just auction them off if you can't be bothered with the maintenance.
Off topic though.
Back on the case in point and Michael Atmas' wild idea of releasing his entire catalogue of traffic generation methods to the public. (All 147 of them)
Well, the dudes idea isn't crazy at all. It's actually pretty smart thinking on his part.
Why's that you ask?
Because the sole reason for Michael to come out from behind the computer and release this powerful stuff that he's coined the Future Proof Traffic, is actually to give other SEOers the knowledge they need to rectify the mistakes that ill informed consultants are using.
Many of the clients he's finding approaching his (and David Judges') offline consultancy service for assistance, are those who are suffering the repercussions of manual penalties, algorithmic penalties, and sometimes as severe as de-indexed websites.
It makes more sense to put the information out there of what's actually effective, and more importantly... preventative, in terms of the penalizations facing webmasters.
Since 2006, Michael and his business partner, David Judge have been ranking client sites successfully. Turns out that they do it not through using any kind of automated software, but automating their actual business.
After looking into what Michael's been doing over the years, it turns out that there's actually nothing genius about his SEO practices. Sorry if that's insulting Michael!
It's actually really straight forward.
Use content marketing to make your service (or offer) attractable enough for people to link to. When they do link over to your site, (hint, use trackbacks for alerts on those who do), he then just gets in touch with other webmasters and business owners, building rapport and establishing a working relationship.
With the relationship building part down, mentions go out on social media channels, and after the first few months legwork is done, the actual sites are established with a bit of authority and then that just spirals for there.
Is that genius?
Some might consider that it is, but for those who have been in the game for a while, i.e myself, it's kind of like a slap in the face for missing the so obvious signals the search updates have sent out.
I've heard so many times of Wikipedia being a powerful resource to send outbound links to, mainly because of the authority. So it makes perfect sense to establish the authority on your own domains, and then let the search engines have the trust they use in their matrix of algorithms, to refer their searchers to you.
As Chris Farrell once told me - K.I.S.S -- Keep It Simple Stupid! I so often forget that part of business.
