Mental Abuse - Are You Being Put Through This By A Loved One?

by Melody Heddings

Thousands of women everywhere these days are being put through mental abuse by a loved one, but many don't even realize that this is happening to them. That is why you have to know the signs that will let you know that you are being abused by someone you know, trust and love.

The only way to stop the abuse is to recognize that it is happening and then taking action to prevent it from continuing. There are some different things that you want to watch, or in this case, listen for that will alert you to the fact that you are being abused mentally.

The following are the signs that will alert you to this.

One: Name calling - Do you have a family member or spouse that likes to call you names that are negative like, stupid, lazy or even ugly? Then this is definitely abuse mentally.

To put you down and make you feel bad about yourself, many abusers will use name calling. These words won't leave any damage that can be seen, but they still have a lot of power to hurt. The name calling will cause long term harm to any person if it is not stopped.

Hearing these things over time will make anyone start to believe them. You can't let this continue because you don't deserve it and because you are a valuable person, just because you are you.

No one has the right to tell you differently or make you feel bad ever, so recognizing that you are being abused will help you find a way to stop it immediately.

Two: Everything is always your fault - When or if something goes wrong, whether in your life or your abuser's life, you will ultimately always be at fault. It doesn't matter if you had anything to do with the problem or not.

One way or another, the person that is abusing you will find a way to make it all your fault and that is something you have to stop now. No one is ever at fault every time something happens.

You need to remember that and realize that they are upset and taking it out on you, but not because of something you did. Instead, the abuser is the one that needs to get help for this, not you. You just need to stop the abuse from continuing before it breaks you down completely.

Three: Constantly feel like you are walking on eggshells - Do you dread your spouse or family member's next outburst, so you do everything you can to avoid causing it? You are definitely being abused mentally if you have to walk around on eggshells in your house just to prevent any problems from happening.

These are the 3 major signs that you are being put through mental abuse. If you find that you are, don't let it continue because it will get worse and not better. You have to put a stop to it now because no one deserves to be treated this way. The sooner you stop it, the sooner you can start to heal from it and the sooner you can get control of your life back.
