My name is Otto, I like to get blotto </br></br> Despite the taboo, stoned characters have been gracing our screens for decades. Kids may not have understood why they acted so strange to begin with, but as they grew up they no doubt came to understand the characters better and better. In some cases the nature of their strange behaviour was obvious, while for others the nuances of their habits have to be slightly more teased out. Either way there are a few of them so it is certainly worth having a go at narrowing down which characters are the best. </br></br> Towlie from South Park </br></br> An obvious one. Towlie's immortal question 'wanna get high?' discreetly lingers with the audience long after he has left the screen. Firstly, the man is a towel, trippy in the extreme. Secondly, he is always high or trying to get high. Finally, as cartoon characters go he is pretty much single-mindedly dedicated to cannabis. He probably even poops cannabis seeds. </br></br> Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants </br></br> You may or may not be aware but there are entire forums dedicated to the exploration of the drug theories behind SpongeBob SquarePants. This is especially interesting as the show has a massive kiddy following and has a large merchandising and film grunt behind it. The suits behind the brand no doubt don't want this mentioned. Anyway, Patrick is quite clearly a stoner: he has the mind of a spilled milk carton and the sensibilities of an intoxicated genie in a bottle. </br></br> Otto Mann from The Simpsons </br></br> Otto is from an era where the carrying of marijuana seeds around in your back pocket was the norm. Being a rock and roll child and a fan of rebellion, he fits into the 60's 'peace and love' motif quite nicely. Also, the fact all the kids like him, especially Bart, tells you that the makers of the Simpsons enjoy portraying a stoner character in this way for a reason. </br></br> Shaggy from Scooby Doo </br></br> Another obvious one. For one, he always has the munchies for Scooby Snacks, and we all know that marijuana encourages the appetite. Also, the whole show is drenched in hippy stylings and tripped out mysteries from start to finish, easily making Shaggy the protagonists stoner assistant, blindly blundering along for the ride, even if he doesn't really know what's going on. </br></br> Cookie Monster from Sesame Street </br></br> More munchies on show. Sesame Street may have changed his name to Veggie Monster, to help all the obese kids change their bad habits, but he will hopefully retain his famous fixation on whatever food they provide for him.
