Russian Investors End Seychelles Visit Positively

by Keith Howard

A group of Russian investors who sampled the Seychelles have left the country at the end of their trip on a positive note. A number of prominent figures from the Seychelles government, including The Minister for Tourism & Culture Alain St. Ange, Peter Sinon, the Minister for Natural Resources and Industry, and Joel Morgan of Internal Affairs & Transport greeted the group from St. Petersburg in Russia.

The goal of the visit for the Russian investors was to consider whether serious investment was viable in Seychelles luxury holidays. The Tourism Board for the Seychelles spent a considerable amount of time and effort showing the best of the Seychelles in an effort to add more to the overall tourist experience.

The Seychelles Investment Specialists Corporation sent two representatives in the form of Gwilym Sicobo and Victoria Contoret to help guide the group around the country; Sicobo is also the Tourism Ambassador for the Seychelles in the Czech Republic.

Prominent figures such as the General Director of the Saint-Petersburg Consortium of Enterprises, Dmitry Morozav, and the Director of Chelyabtehtrans, Michael Sapogoy helped guide the gathering of Russian investors too.

The trip around the country ended with a PowerPoint presentation presented by figures like Danielle Belle, a lawyer based in the Seychelles. He discussed the legal support mechanisms each investor would have in place if they decided to invest in the country. Minister Alain St. Ange also took the time to reassure the group about the safety of the country and the concessions on the table from the government of the Seychelles. He said of these controls: "We are offering you a safe country in which to set up your business, and we offer you a country with no currency control whatsoever. What you bring in, you can take out, as it remains your money,"

He also discussed the relationship between the public and private sectors, and how it related to the investment group: "The government of Seychelles will only play the role of the facilitator, but it is through our local lawyers or agents that you will seal your deals or move your investment inquiries in Seychelles forward. It is important for you all to appreciate that in Seychelles a public/private sector partnership exists. The public sector, the government, opens the doors, and the private sector concludes the deal with you and for you."

Before leaving the country, representatives from the Tourism Board took the delegates to the event counting down the time until the Carnaval International de Victoria. And it's also something which served as a fantastic opportunity to invite the Russian delegation to put up a Russian group for the carnival.

The Seychelles particularly wants to gain the support of Russia since it's one of the most important tourism groups for the Seychelles. So far, the country gained more resources from the Tourism Board to encourage investment.
