The Advantages Of Marketing Offline
With the power and the convenience of the internet, some people ask, "does traditional or offline marketing still work?" The answer is a big YES. There are a lot of people who still believe in doing things the old way, because there are a number of advantages that come with its use.
FASTER RESULTS. When you resort to online advertising, you need to utilize search engine optimization in order to gain popularity with your target market. Sometimes, moving to the top of the page search may take weeks, maybe even months before some potential customer chances upon the need to click on your website link. And even if she does click, the probability of her changing her mind after seeing your page is high - since you can't be in front of her to convince her to purchase.
Offline advertising however, can produce results as long as the ads are well-placed in locations where your target market is. The power of a picture of your home-baked turkey on a billboard overwhelms a potential buyer - thus, your market is reached. You create a desire, a need and a want for your product in the psyche of a person - even if this person very well knows that your product is not an essential or staple.
DURABILITY. The truth of the matter is, your online advertisements may end up intentionally or accidentally deleted - thus erasing your entire advertising plan. Your search engine standings also change so often, it's hard to ensure your position in the virtual world.
Traditional advertising does not have this major disadvantage. Your advertising materials can very well last for the next decade - as long as the product is still relevant. Even television commercials from the 60's are aired sometimes, to establish the durability of the product in the market. A coke commercial, for example, "It's the Real Thing," was created in the 60's-early 70's, and is sometimes broadcasted for that "nostalgia" factor. Even a business card distributed by a person or company clerk can still be referred to 20 years from now.
Offline advertising is more lasting. Not one careless click of a computer keyboard can erase your efforts.
EASIER TO TRUST. With the advent of online buying sites came the advent of the scrupulous online scammer as well. More and more virtual experts who use their talents to trick people are propping up online. After saving, carefully picking, paying… the item is never delivered to your doorstep. This is a situation which has been too common for it to be completely disregarded.
However, if you are convinced through a traditional ad or flyer to buy something, you can physically trek to the store and purchase the item yourself. You hand over your cash or credit card, and surely walk away with the item in tow. A lot of buyers prefer buying an item from a store also, since they are able to ask questions, or air out concerns and apprehensions about the products being sold. The seller also has the convenience of convincing a potential customer to buy, since they benefit from face-to-face interaction.
All in all, the advantages one can derive from traditional offline advertising are plenty. Nope, they have not been outdated or outdone by its virtual counterpart. It's all a matter of preference.
Additional Tip:
You also might like to consider some form of reward or incentivisation for achieving goals. Sometimes this is as simple as a gift voucher or a dinner. Other options are profit sharing and bonus payments. Make sure you discuss any incentivisation options with your team before implementing them, don't assume to know what they want or what motivates them. Time and again making these assumptions has proven to be a very costly mistake. You may be surprised just how simple the reward may need to be.
