2012: To Be or Not to Be?
What is your concensus regarding the end of the world as we know it? The date this has been projected for is 12-21-2012. It makes me wonder...will it be morning or night? Will it take all day? Will it be quick or will everyone suffer?
I am neutral on whether it will actually occur at all. The history of the Mayans, an ancient society, have predicted this for thousands of years. In fact, their calendar ends that very day. They have predicted a lot of major events that have come true over recent years including 911, huge hurricanes (such as Katrina and Ike), major volcanos (such as Russia's Kamchatka and Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull), massive oil spills, and an abundance of natural disasters.
The world has become a chaotic mess and so it's not too difficult to believe that it's not just coincidence. However, in the past we've overreacted and dreaded some dates that had an 'unknown' outcome and had catastrophic predictions. These include Y2K in the year 2000. We didn't know what would happen in a world of technological advance which we depend on so greatly and whether the clocks and mechanisms would recognize the new millenium. There was also the 1st Doomsday in May 2003, which went along without a consequence.
So, now we face the potential Apocalyptic event and while most scientists believe it won't occur, we just won't know until it arrives.
The best thing to do in such a situation is be prepared. Find out what types of things you will need in case the event isn't over quickly and you have to take care of your family for a period of time. Think of shelter, food, and crime as just a few of the essential challenges you may face.
Either way, I will be prepared to be prepared.
