If you are new to internet marketing, trying to earn an income on the internet either part-time or full-time, you'll soon come to realize what most internet gurus are preaching, the money is in the list, is really the way to keep on making money year round. These internet gurus have long list of opt-in subscribers and can generate income at will. Sooner or later, it will be time for you to build your own opt-in list, if you want to stand a chance at making any kind of money on the net.
You may have tried different list building system to build a decent opt-in list only to realize that building a list of 2000 subscribers can be quite a daunting and expensive task. Eventually after trying half a dozen or so different systems and realizing that you are nowhere near your 2000 subscribers target. You push your list building to the back burner and carry on but only to come back sooner or later.
You should avoid SPAM complaints at all cost, because your ISP can be shut down and you can have all kind of related problem that you don't need. To avoid SPAM complaints, don't go and buy a list of 12 million names and start mailing to them, that would be internet marketing suicide. Don't do that.

In reality, most of the techniques will work eventually, but don't expect any particular system to deliver 5000 names in a day, unless you have an incredible product and joint ventured with the Big Boys of internet marketing with a combined opt-in list of 3 millions names or so.
There are many ways to reach your potential subscribers. If you can invest in PPC search engines such as overture.com, you can get lots of traffic to your site. You'll be bidding against other marketers for search terms, such as "gardening", "gardening soil", etc. But it can be a bit expensive.
You can also use Google AdWords, which can deliver lots of traffic to your site and get you lots of subscribers to your opt-in list. That can also be expensive.
You might want to go with Ezine Advertising and target a content related ezine based on your niche. Do a search for ezine in Google and you'll find all the possible targeted ezine that you can use in your niche.
With all that talking, I haven't really talked about why most opt-in list building system don't work, have I? Well the problem is that is not easy to generate a continuous steady flow of traffic to your site. Unless you have deep pocket and keep using PPC advertising and AdWord advertising or Ezine advertising, which can be quite expensive in the long run, you'll have to settle for the free traffic secrets.
The Free Traffic That Can Build Your List:
Press release: Using press release is a good way to get lots of traffic to your site and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Just the idea of press release will send some new marketers hiding behind their computers, but don't be alarmed, once you have done it and get a feel for it, you'll be sending press releases like crazy. Writing articles: Writing articles and submitting them to various article directory can get you subscribers as well and branding you as an authority in your niche. The way to do this is to teach your audience in your article and not try to sell them anything and you'll do fine. Best way to do this is to use an automatic article submitter. Using Blogs: Everybody is blogging nowadays, why not use blog in your daily marketing to attract subscribers! You can use www.blogger.com to start learning about blogging and get your feet wet.
