How Do Unsecured Loans Help Consumers During Holiday Emergencies

by Eric D Kyle

During the holidays, consumers budgets are pushed to the limits, leaving little or no room for any emergency. In holidays, many consumers spend a lot and when emergencies strike, they are put into financial troubles because they have already exhausted their credit cards. If you use your credit card for emergencies, you could risks facing huge interest rates on balances that you cannot clear. In addition, the credit cards have a limit for spending on credit, and if you have already reached the maximum you can spend, it means you cannot use the card for the emergency.

However, with unsecured loans, you can resolve holiday emergencies such as hospital bills you incur during the holiday period. Credit cards are used by many people during holidays because of the perks they attract but when it comes to emergencies, they can hurt your interest rates especially if you are not able to clear the balances. Unsecured loans offered by banks can help you meet the urgent financial needs. These loans, also known as signature loans are useful in that they help you meet the financial needs while not putting your assets at stake. The bank cannot take your possessions such as a car, house, and other assets when you fail to repay the loan. However, this does not mean that you should not repay the debt because it can damage your credit report and score.

Unsecured loans attract relatively higher interest rates because there is no collateral to pledge. If you cannot qualify for the unsecured loans from your bank when faced with holiday emergencies, you may opt for other options such as peer-to-peer lending, installment loans, and in the worst scenario, you may go for payday predator loans. Peer to peer lending offers credit facilities to people in need of cash, and because this lending platform eliminates some of the administrative costs associated with traditional bank operations, the borrowers enjoy relatively lower interest rates. Nonetheless, no all consumers may qualify for these peer-to-peer loans.

Installment loans are a short-term loan that comes in the version of payday loans. They are payable in long term than payday loans but their interest rates are also high though not as high as those of payday loans. Installment loans can help you when you are in dire need of cash during the holidays. If you cannot obtain unsecured loans from your bank, peer-to-peer lenders, or from the installment loan lenders, then payday loans may be the only way out to solve your financial emergency. However, you have to be prepared to meet the high interest rates. The unsecured loans can help you pay for medical expenses, clear credit card balance to avoid higher interest rates, or pay for regular bills. One reason why you would want to use unsecured loans to pay for the regular bills and balances on your card during the holiday is because, these debts affect your credit score and interest rates for a long period.
