Are you in the habit of doing things over and over again, even when you are certain it is not necessary? You check the house doors if they are securely locked, and you do this over and over again before you go to bed, even when you have checked the doors more than ten times. You repeatedly wash your hands long after leaving the toilet and you worry yourself sick about your health even though there is no apparent reason to do so. You could be suffering from obsessive compulsion disorder, or OCD.
This mental ailment can be disempowering and even lead to acute mental breakdown if not attended to before going out of control. Over 3% of people on average suffer from OCD worldwide. Many, however, go undiagonised, partly due to ignorance or to shame for disclosing this meantally and physically enervating condition.
It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that drugs do more harm than good in busting this ailment. It must be understood that OCD is basically and wholly a mental condition and it has to be conquered first by understanding how the mind of a human being functions.
No one is born with this condition. It is something that is unconsciously cultivated and nurtured and then ultimately turns into a monster that becomes uncontrollable.
Thoughts are subtle things and if not intelligently handled can go out of control. If a person is prone to giving attention to certain thoughts that pass through his or her mind, they can in time grow and become difficult to uproot. One of the best ways to begin overcoming OCD is to understand that OCD are just thoughts and nothing else. You could start by just observing these thoughts of wanting to wash your hands repeatedly, for example, as they go through your mind. Just watch this thoughts as you would watch pictures on your TV screen.
It is important to first understand that you are the thinker of your own thoughts and that these same thoughts don't have to control you, and that you were not born this way. You were born with the power to control your thoughts. However, do not try and suppress these OCD thoughts whenever they rear their ugly head. Just watch them and simply know and understand that they are just mere thoughts. You'll be surprised how these thoughts lose their compulsive force as days go by.
Also know that you were born with a natural guidance system in you, so to speak, that is infallible and will help you overcome any mental bogey-man that wants to overtake your personality. You can overcome OCD when you first realise that OCD are just thoughts and nothing else, and that they have no power to harm you.
