The Principles Of Successful Living

Ernest Holmes, in his inspirational book entitled : THE SCIENCE OF MIND, says; "The Science of Mind is based entirely upon the supposition that we are surrounded by a Universal Mind, into which we think. This Mind, in Its original state, fills all space. It fills the space that man uses in the Universe. It is in man, as well as outside him. As he thinks into this Universal Mind, he sets a law in motion, which is creative, and which contains within Itself a Limitless possibility."

Ernest Holmes further says that all nature conspires for the ultimate freedom of the individual. But then it is the individual who finally determines whether the Law of nature will bring any lasting good for him. The individual determines this by the way he thinks.

It is unfortunate and even sad that this truth is not taught at school. At best it is shrouded in religious myths and dogmas. The mind of man does not work haphazardly or by chance. It is governed by law much the same way as the laws of physics govern matter. The laws of mind are exacting and inexorable. Ernest Holmes further says: "..no person whose entire time is spent in the contemplation of limitation can demonstrate freedom from such limitation." There we have it. What we mentally dwell on, shall willy nilly become our material experience. This means that some thoughts can even make us sick or heal us, depending on what we think and how deep we dwell on the thought.

This teaching of the Science of Mind can be dangerous because some people may think that they can get whatever they want. If this were true, then certainly some of us would want things that would interfere with the wellbeing of others. However, it has to be understood that there is enough in the universe for every one of us. Enough to share and to spare.

We have to come to the knowledge that the Laws of Mind are Absolute and can do anything that the mind of the individual can coceive of it doing. All human beings are first and foremost spiritual in nature and express themselves materially and not the other way round. With this understanding, it will be possible to cast away fear from our minds about nature's intention for us.

Even when we seem to be unsuccessful, it is the law fullfilling our innermost thoughts about life. This may sound cruel and unfeeling for those who are in need or unhappy. Yet the truth is that our innermost thoughts about ourselves and life in general, ultimately determine what will happen in our lives. So the person who wishes for success of any kind in his or her life, has to know that nature conspires for us to be happy, successful and prosperous. If this truth could be taught as a scientific truth, just as we are taught about the law of gravity and other laws of physics at school, for example, we would be much better off.

We would be working with knowledge and not blind religious faith, which has been the source of misery for many people. Finally, successful living is first and firemost a mental attitude and not what one does or has. The right mental and spiritual understanding of the relationship of man to nature, is what will determine whether we lead successful lives or not. Thats all.
