Hotel Room Safety Tips

Off on holiday this Summer and worried about your belongings being left in your room whilst you're out? Maybe you're a little nervous about people gaining access to your room without your consent?
It's true that the vast majority of us will never encounter problems of these sorts, but whatever the level of risk, it's best to eliminate it. Read on for a series of helpful tips to ensure that you and your belongings remain safe in your hotel room at all times.
To protect yourself within your room you should always make sure that your door is locked. Yes, it's obvious, but this is without a doubt the most effective way of keeping people out. If a person knocks on your door, make sure that you either recognise the person before you open the door or ask them for a source of ID to prove their identity is genuine. At night you should make full use of the locks on your door, using the deadbolt where available and attaching the latch.
If you are holidaying with young children, you should double check that you are booked into a family room before you get to your accommodation - if not insist on one. Despite often being cramped, you can rest assured that your little ones are always close by. Once you are happy with your room, make sure that it has the necessary safety requirements for your children such as electrical socket covers and safety gates. If you are carrying expensive valuables or large amounts of cash, you should always opt to pay for the use of a safe. Not only are they handy for money and jewellery, but you should also store your passport within. Never leave your valuables on view, portable games consoles and expensive watches are easily stolen, opt to hide items such as these in a wardrobe or cupboard if you do not have the option of a safe. The same goes for any credit cards, personal information or travellers cheques. When leaving your room for the day, make sure that all windows are properly secured and double check the lock on your door.
As you can see, most of these tips are common sense but by utilising them as best as possible, you can eliminate any potential pit-falls that may present themselves whilst you are away.
