The Hands That Changed My Life

Knowledge is power. A knowledgeable person sees the world differently from a person with no knowledge. A child starts learning several things on his own without anybody telling him about them. I also learned a lot of things from my life experiences. At the age of nine I learned that I have to accompany my mother to different houses where she would do the household chores like cleaning, washing and cooking, and I had to sit quietly on the kitchen floor till the job is done. This continued till she completes her job in at least four to five houses in a day. In the late afternoon we would return home and she would do some extra work to make ends meet by packaging hair clips and ear rings till late night. I would also help her and my earnings were a chocolate for the day which I was very happy to earn.

This was my world until my mother got a whole day job at a nearby bungalow. The owners were new in the locality and the security guard at the bungalow helped my mother get this job. Here also I accompanied her and sat outside the house in the lawn. The owner's kids were also of my age. Once they asked me about my school to which I had no answer. They mentioned this to their mother and she spoke to my mother about the same. My mother told her that the nearby schools were all expensive and the municipal school was far off. So she didn't put me in any school instead she would send me for tuitions so as to get the basic knowledge of reading and writing.

Hearing this Aruna aunty (I fondly called our madam) was furious and she insisted that she gets me an admission in the nearby school and she would bear half of the school fees and would buy me a new uniform, books, and stationery. She also accompanied my mother to the school to help her with the admission process.

My schooling started from the next day and this changed everything, and thus began the new venture in my life. I secured good marks in all my exams and secured a distinction in my SSC and HSC examinations.

Now I didn't want to burden my mother and Aruna aunty so I took tuitions for the children in my locality and also did a part time job at an office. This helped me in completing my graduation and also my mother was relieved. During my graduation studies Aruna aunty had forced me to take up a computer course which I did. Though she had limited knowledge about computers she found out that doing a ccna security course would be a good one. In addition to this I also completed my computer networking course, after I got the job of a tutor in the same institution. Now along with teaching and giving ccnp training to my students I am thoroughly enjoying my life. I owe this life to my Aruna aunty whose timely advice changed my life.
